Nothing saps my enjoyment of a horror thing quite as quick as calling its subject an "anomaly" or "entity". What you're too cool for ghouls?

It's okay to just write about a goblin or a freak in a castle, you don't gotta try for the "scariest wikipedia article" award. You'll lose! They already got the Byford Dolphin accident on there, you simply do not rate!

Forgot to clean the fridge. (Biome concept by Arnie Jorgensen. Final 2D assets, screenshot mockup, and spot concepts by ME.)

Hello everyone! Unfortunately, I was laid off from Gravity Well today and am looking for a job as a 3D Environment Artist. My previous experience includes: Gravity Well, Moon Studios, Stoic, Envar, Pixanoh, Square Enix MTL, etc. The image shows some projects I've had the pleasure of working on.

"Make it 15% stupid". Can't recall where I heard that and I'm probably misremembering, but it's helped me be less precious about my design choices. IIRC the idea behind it is that it can make a "good" design into a "memorable" one by adding an unexpected element also its fun

if you see this drop your single favorite character design tip Mine is probably “any shape can be any thing”. A way of trying to push myself to explore more interesting shape choices and focus on the quality of them.

(The more practical version would maybe be something like "make it 15% [contrasting tone]" Intimidating villain + 15% pathetic Comic relief + 15% tragic Elegant hero + 15% camp or 15% grotesque or 15% crab)

This is something Fromsoft and drag do really well. There are 80000000000 "big sword guy" designs, but only one of them rides around on a tiny horse that represents his perverse sentimentality.

I've been getting pretty genuinely upset at the secret boss fight in ch 5 so I needed to draw something to remind myself this is a world and characters I enjoy. I respect these games even if sometimes that respect doesn't feel reciprocal

This was for a cut biome from Towerborne. The forest is meant to be illusory and sinister, hence the eye motifs and Eyvind Earle-style foliage (I also thought it'd be a fun way to nod back to the Banner Saga style).

Its difficult to put my my anger over this into words. The modern Backrooms was born from the collective effort of thousands. That collaboration, all that passion/time was freely given because it made people happy. Now its being monetized. Its exactly like Ai and the internet.

the problem with the games industry is that it makes money in a sustainable way by creating stuff that people want to pay for this is in contrast to how big capital would prefer to make money, by trying to scale fake numbers to infinity using gambler brained investors lured in by impossible claims

I miss movie tie-in games and I think we should bring them back. And I mean proper ol' fashioned, day-and-date with the movie games, not after-the-fact stuff like RoboCop: Rogue City and the like. Yeah, they were mediocre-to-bad 90% of the time, but it was worth it for the few gems that weren't:

i've seen too many good video game opinions today, time for some bad ones what is your take that will have you like this?

Crusty Star Fox is cool Nintendo's house style has become so thoroughly ossified that it's neat to see them branching out (also it genuinely looks good imo)

They were handed a perfectly market-tested Hollywood design with big eyes and Dreamworks eyebrows and decided "what if they were water-damaged puppets instead" and they were right for that

Replying to @eiffel.art

anyway it's a great time to look at these funny puppents,

Hey, #portfolioday I'm Eric. I do environments and props and characters and whatnot for games. I'm a style glutton and perpetually on the hunt for projects that push me out of my comfort zone. Here's a few recent things folk paid me to make.

If yall want a great read on healthy studio culture and what classic concept feels like to make; educational, exploratory, and collaborative. Take a read. Also Sam rocks and his ideas on spooky shit slap.

So I want to share a story about my favorite concept in our latest game, The Killing Stone, and how strong art direction recognizes the potential of an idea and can empower artists working to capture it.

I also want to piggy back here, these are some of my Shorebreeze concepts for Towerborne. Was probably my favourite biome to work on and I'm really stoked with how it came out in the end. #towerborne #conceptart #digitalart

This was the longest I ever worked on a project (4.5 years), AND the first project I joined during pre-production, so I really got to spread my residue all over it. Most importantly I probably worked with the best and coolest group of environment artists I could hope for.

Extra shout out to the artists at Airborn, who easily did the bulk of the 2D lift: Dominik Gröstlinger Ilka Hesche Jeremy Boulivet Jonas Kunert Valeria Traverso Kaat Van Thillo Valentina Mikhailava Yevhen Davydiuk Additional art support: Pedro Damasceno: @pedro-damasceno.bsky.social
