Because if there’s one thing Jesus was super into, it was earthly politics

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "If we had Jesus Christ come down and count the votes, I would've won California. But it's a rigged vote."

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t criticize Dems - of course not - but acting like “a mediocre Dem versus an actual fascist” is a tough choice is extremely unhelpful for people trying to build a broad united front against fascism.

Writing is thinking. It's not some marginal boring task you can skip. It's the heart of it.

Sam Adams@samadams.bsky.social

It’s easy to think writing is mainly the transcription of ideas you already have—that is, until you try to write something worthwhile, and you find what you thought were saying transform into something far more interesting in the process. This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.

Trump has lost the culture. But what if the universal conventional wisdom—that he won the culture in the first place—was never true? What if our warped media environment, then Trump's victory, created an illusion of MAGA cultural dominance that is now slipping. This is a long one, so strap in.

What will those feisty Gen-Zers purchase next? Recklessly splurging on the $1.50 hot dog at Costco? An actual vegetable every other day? Perhaps even a second serving of gruel?

AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

Men’s pants: Your waist is 30 inches, therefore you are a size 30. Women’s pants: Your waist is bad inches, you have wide hips, a small butt, short legs, a long torso, a prehensile tail, and we don’t like your face. Therefore you are a size whatever the fuck we want, but only at this store.

I wonder when social media companies will face any type of criticism for basically forcing millions of Americans - many of them minors - to watch a violent killing. Total negligence of moderation and safety standards and yet our reaction as a society is to punish private citizens for their posts?

She doesn’t think there’s enough suffering in the world? …

Jenny Cohn@jennycohn.bsky.social

Katherine Boyle is a partner of tech billionaire Marc Andreessen. In 2023, she wrote that there’s a “war on suffering,” which has “robbed us of resilience.” She blamed Roe v Wade & the decision to make military service optional. She said that this “war” coincided w/ the decline of religiosity. 1/

It’s because people who say that are thinking about the imaginary “bad people” and “bullies” they would go after for the sake of their kids. It’s why I hate when people say “I’m a mama bear if you come after my kids” - what i hear as a teacher is…

The Devouring Mother@ragnell.bsky.social

People will be like "I would do anything for my kids!" right up until you suggest raising the property taxes a few cents.

“I will butt my nose in to prevent anyone from being critical of my child, but I won’t read with them for 10 mins a day” or “I WILL make sure the teacher honors my child’s special unique circumstances but I won’t take their phone away when it’s clearly the thing keeping them from academic success”

Now that I’ve seen their propaganda videos I’m wondering if shooting that video was the sole reason for this?!

Mayor Karen Bass@mayor.lacity.gov

This is footage from today in MacArthur Park. Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing — then, the MILITARY comes through. The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW. Absolutely outrageous.

Oh no I really hope Bill Clinton isn’t in the Epstein files, I’ll have to get rid of my Bill Clinton hat and my Bill Clinton sneakers and my Bill Clinton cologne and my Bill Clinton watch and take down my Bill Clinton flag and I’ll have to delete my Bill Clinton nft trading cards

It’s because sooo many churches have been in bed with the right for ages, while claiming not to be “political”- in fact they use the word “political” as another synonym for “worldly” (meaning unspiritual, of the world and not of God). If they say you’re “being political” it’s a slight.

Samuel Perry@profsamperry.bsky.social

From a paper I just read: the effect of worship attendance on one's willingness to pay higher tax so everyone can have better health care across nations. Note in most nations, the association is positive, though mostly non-significant. Just in the USA where the association is negative & significant.

And you are “being political” if you care about any social issues, like gender equity, racial equity, healthcare, healthy food, the environment etc., unless your concern is framed in acceptable religious terms. So like “every soul is precious to God, no matter their race or gender” is okay to say -

but something like “as a society we should work toward equality in this specific way” is “political”. Even if the specific way mentioned is not policy, but like “listen to POC/women more”, if it sounds even slightly off of the conservative GOP party line, it is “political” and not “appropriate”

The fact that the President of the United States posts a fake video of a kneeling Barack Obama being handcuffed and we’re supposed to pretend it’s perfectly normal, everyday stuff shows exactly what is terribly wrong with today’s political mainstream media.

Well, that doesn’t sound like the Donald Trump. I know, who bragged to Howard Stern that he bought a teen beauty pageant so he could sneak into the dressing room and leer at undressed young girls.
