What's a super specific plot that you will happily watch whenever it comes up?
For me, I cannot resist a group of plucky young people putting together a band.
Already felt seen enough by @themountaingoats.bsky.social singing about Renaissance, but then when I realized they put some Jon Camp bass licks in there…
Also as a fan of contradiction in musical styles, having a song called “Best Hard Rock Albums 2013” and have it swimming in Fernando Saunders-esque fretless bass grooves rocks
The World Cup is delivering a big revenue boost for FIFA but not so much for the United States economy—as international tourists have not turned up in promised numbers.
I, too, sing America.
I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.
Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.

Cape Verdeans are now honorary Philadelphians because that was basically ROCKY. They weren't "supposed" to be there, much less going the distance with the champions and the GOAT, who had to give it everything they've got just to eek out a win in overtime. Bravo.
muppets shakespeare movie but none of them can agree on which play they're actually doing so all the big ones are happening at once
miss piggy is lady macbeth while gonzo and rizzo are rosencrantz and guildenstern, etc etc
I would not be here if not for antidepressants that have been making my life better for 28 years. But of course, that’s what he wants. He’s a monstrous, eugenicist pimple on the ass of society. Fuck this weapons-grade stupid nepo-baby prick.

Name a mediocre movie.
I'm talking baseline, middle of the road, generic competence. The standard by which "above average" and "below average" can be judged.
still trying to figure out how the WHCD assassination attempt became an all-out campaign to fund White House renovations. I guess the man at the back said "everyone attack" and...it turned into a ballroom blitz?
Exactly how stupid does John Henry think that Red Sox fans are? I already loathed this loser ownership group but they can all absolutely fuck off to the dark side of the moon for firing the Captain.
1. Brian Dunne - Clams Casino (2025)
Heartland rock with uncommon smarts, chops, and hooks. Proof you can write accessibly in that vein without playing to the lowest common denominator. Handclaps on “Graveyard” and 12-string on “Gracie Mansion” are the details that make good albums great. #MWE
10. Tony! Toni! Toné! - House of Music (1996)
The missing link between old-school Babyface-style R&B and D’Angelo/Questlove neo-soul. It runs a little long, like all CD-era R&B albums, but the songs stay memorable and Saadiq really comes into his own as a newly-minted legend. Great stuff. #MWE
11. Descendants - Milo Goes to College (1982)
Absolutely get why it’s so influential & why so many of my favorite bands cite it as an influence, but time hasn’t been kind to it. The lyrics are juvenile at best, regressive at worst, & the fantastic energy of the music can’t overcome that. #MWE

8. The Del Fuegos - Boston, Mass. (1985)
A band with good songs and serious blues-rock muscle. “I Just Want You” and “Don’t Run Wild” were killer singles but the whole tracklist is excellent. No frills rock from the last real era where that was viable. Love a great almost-made-it band. #MWE
9. Survivor - Vital Signs (1984)
Blew away my expectations. Always loved “High on You” but it’s just killer chorus after killer chorus one after another for basically the entire record. More or less the platonic ideal of a certain species of arena-rock/pop. Slick and shiny in the best way. #MWE

6. The Free Movement - I’ve Found Someone of My Own (1972)
Like if the 5th Dimension did a little acid and went to church. The title track deserved its success, but the genius one is probably the blaxploitation-gospel cover of Stephen Stills. Deeply soulful & very evocative of the time. #MWE
7. Justo Betancourt - Pa’ Brava Yo (1972)
I do a Fania album every year and they never disappoint. He’s a particularly excellent singer and you can see why the title track is legendary. I remain inarticulate about salsa music, but the percussion and staccato piano speak to me nonetheless. #MWE

4. Cave In - Jupiter (2000)
An intriguing sweet-and-sour mix. Every time I thought it was going to lose me in kinda tuneless heavy alt murk, it took a surprising turn I loved. I feel like it’ll almost certainly grow on me over time, too. Great instincts for song dynamics in particular. #MWE
5. The Berries - The Berries (2025)
Equal parts Jakob Dylan, Ryan Adams, The War on Drugs and other great influences, but has a distinct cohesive style. Some of the best guitar arrangements in the last few years. “Wind Chime” was the standout on first spin by all the songs are rock-solid. #MWE

2. Illusion - Illusion (1978)
Almost a different band from their debut, reaffirming my belief that few things are better than a prog band pivoting to accessibility.
John Hawken is the star on keys with his piano and Mellotron(!!) adding nuance & complexity to every song. Excellent. #MWE
3. New York City - I’m Doin’ Fine Now (1973)
The best songs, including the hit title track, are a great NY entry in the Philly soul derby. Thom Bell is a Mt. Rushmore producer. But there isn’t enough great material and the covers are pure AM radio gimmickry. Could’ve been much better. #MWE
there needs to be a sex offender registry but for ice guys. you should have to go door to door when you move to a new area and inform your neighbors that you used to be an ice guy. they shouldn't be allowed with 500 feet of a school
Yearly appreciation post for Richard Kendall Gibbs, whose score for the ‘90s Hallmark Christmas movie The Christmas Box is a work of utter beauty. Makes me cry by itself every single year.
People need to stop retconning literally the worst era in American popular music history into something it wasn't, just because there were also some amazing records that like 250 people happened to be hunting down and listening to

As strategy, I think "I will boycott this" is more effective than "I demand that people refuse to participate in this" which is more effective than "I will boycott people who participate in this" which is more effective than "I demand that you boycott them too." Anyway: I will boycott this.
I don't think these actors are transphobes, but I am reminded of an interview I did with a well-loved performer in which I asked him how he could work with a certain indefensible person (not JKR) and he appeared to think very hard and then said, "It's a really big part." deadline.com/2025/08/harr...
The Billy Joel doc is mostly very good but man they just let him breeze past some of the things I was most interested in hearing his perspective on now. It’s pretty unforgivable to never once say Doug Stegmeyer’s name in 4 hours of runtime.
Age verification? My first concert was Hall & Oates and 'Til Tuesday, a few months before I saw Black Flag in '85. I saw SMOKEY & THE BANDIT and STAR WARS in the theater the same day, both first run.

Not to take “look over here” rambling by the senile asshole-in-chief more seriously than it deserves, but Guardians is a terrific name for the team. The Guardians of Traffic are cool as hell and literally RIGHT next to the stadium. That was a huge upgrade.
ESPN doing their damndest to make the Derby completely unwatchable. Desperate pick-me WrestleMania “celebrity” nonsense. Foisting Pat McAfee on us. And this awful fucking split screen so you never see a single goddamn home run go. Just awful TV.
There’s late ‘80s commercial for A1 steak sauce that tries to sell the concept of hamburgers as just chopped steak and it ends with a VERY specific cadence of:
Kid: “…and save the ketchup for the fries”
Dad/chef: “GOOOOOD”

In "The Stand' by Stephen King (complete/uncut ed iirc), a character called The Kid would sometimes say "how do you like that happy crappy?" and I often say that to myself/out loud for various reasons lol.
