Mia Pante balling out this entire first half, for those keeping track… giving Calgary fits every time she touches the ball #CanWNT #NSL

Dan H@hanoomansingh.com

Full-time at Swangard and I am convinced that Mia Pante needs to be in the upcoming #CanWNT squad. She may not be ready to slot into the senior team, but she won’t be in the Northern Super League for long and should challenge the players currently ahead of her.

Example: This morning, I sent this letter (image w/ alt text) to each of Vancouver’s incoming school trustees. To be clear, it doesn’t stop here: we also have to attend meetings/sign up to speak and generally keep our foot on the gas. But it starts simple and it starts now. #BCPoli #BCEd #bcedchat

A word in the role of municipalities: legally, municipal govt is entirely subordinate to the province. But practically-speaking (esp for big cities), it’s more complicated than that. Keep an eye on the COPE bloc in Vancouver, as they could be very influential over the next 4 years #BCPoli #VanPoli

Dan H@hanoomansingh.com

This is it. It’s going to be a long four years... - Deny consent: protest, civil disobedience, push municipal govts to oppose the province - Tie the province up in court: just keep them from putting points on the board. - Donate: we gotta help lift each other out, because this govt won’t #BCPoli

I want to come back to this because I think FPTP gives people brain worms: the electorate gave the NDP a slim majority in 2024; it was Eby’s job to figure out how to work within that. Instead, he called a snap election, hoping to strong-arm voters into giving them a greater majority. #BCPoli

Justin McElroy 🇨🇦@jmcelroy.bsky.social

I've chatted with a few NDP MLAs and staffers on this, and they were truly and honestly stressed about how often they had late night procedural wrangling and votes where the government could have been defeated The problem is, I'm not sure anyone outside of NDP family members cares in the slightest

The last two years of David Eby as Premier have been an excellent illustration of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He accomplished nothing and expected to be rewarded by voters. bsky.app/profile/pipa...

what a mess, british columbia. time to organize.

The whole “repeal DRIPA” is a good example of what’s to come: the conservatives are not prepared to form govt and the beginning of their time in power will be haphazard… that’s the time to fight them to a standstill. Don’t let them put up anything resembling a win #BCPoli bsky.app/profile/akka...

Crucially, this type of stonewalling is non-partisan: it doesn’t matter which party is in govt, provincial or federal, or if it’s the police or the weather office. There is a pervasive culture in which govt agencies do not believe that citizens have a right to access information. #CanPoli #BCPoli

Andrew Kurjata@akurjata.ca

This is a publicly funded government agency refusing to share weather warnings and their own public warnings with a journalist at Global News, one of the larger mainstream news outlets in Canada. I really want you to sit with the bare facts of that.

I struggle with some of the real-life conversations I'm having with people: yes, we are in an affordability crisis and yes, people are struggling to make ends meet. However, we are also in a crisis point with multiple public systems (chiefly healthcare, also education). We must address this #CanPoli

The Tyee@thetyee.ca

The province never followed through on building extra space needed to offer additional services at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Patients are suffering and dying unnecessarily as a result, say doctors. @michellegamage.bsky.social reports. #BCPoli thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...

We must make a massive medium-term investment in public infrastructure (prov + municipal) and that money must come from somwhere. I believe that people in my economic position (living comfortably but w/ minimal savings/no equity) and better need to be prepared to open the wallet at tax time #VanPoli

My concern is that the electorate doesn't have the appetite for this; they can recognize the problem but can't stomach the solution. We see this in the 'involuntary treatment' debate: the fact that the system lacks the $ provide voluntary treatment for those who want it seems lost on many #BCPoli

The quotes from Eby in this article demonstrate how much the BC NDP are in trouble. Negative campaigning is always risky. It can work if your opponent is sufficiently unappealing. But it’s not a viable long-term strategy. Voters don’t appreciate a party that doesn’t propose anything #BCpoli

Lindsay Brown@lidsville.bsky.social

Let me get this straight: 1. Dave Eby calls a snap election to reduce the power of the BC Greens to call a non-confidence vote. 2. Then he begs Green voters to vote NDP—on top of his many right-wing policies & his destruction of our chance at Pro Rep. Wow. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar... #bcpoli

The fact that Eby is taking this tack is not surprising, because this is who he is now. Regardless of the result in this election, Eby and this generation of NDPers are finished. This is ‘last gasp’ kind of stuff; there’s no future here #BCPoli bsky.app/profile/hano...

Dan H@hanoomansingh.com

I have quipped, with increasing frequency over the last few years, that Pivot Legal's David Eby would hate Premier David Eby. But I think it's a genuinely fascinating study in how this man appears to have no values or beliefs #bcpoli

Practically-speaking, Eby seems to have misread the temperature on ‘left-of-centre’ voters. The provincial Greens and federal NDP have held the balance of power in recent memory; it’s not unreasonable to think they could do it again. Yet Eby is talking as if a Green vote is merely a protest. #BCPoli

There’s another basic fact at play, which is that Sim/ABC couldn’t point to a significant accomplishment from 4 years in office. Regardless of the political leanings of the electorate, that’s a liability. And in that context, a 2-term councilor with good ideas easily becomes a viable alternative.

Justin McElroy 🇨🇦@jmcelroy.bsky.social

There were a lot of big brained people who dismissed the chances of Pete Fry as mayor. Too vague. Too wishy washy on housing. Not enough money. Not enough organization. They overlooked a basic fact: the centre-left coalition candidate who comes across as a decent guy stands a good chance.

Obviously, all the races are interconnected and I observed COPE especially doing a lot of good campaigning on the ground. But for Pete Fry personally, the campaign really seemed to be a case of ‘don’t interrupt your enemy while they’re making a mistake’ and it worked #VanPoli

Stewart Prest@stewartprest.ca

Remarkable to see Fry win so decisively in Vancouver. He won with what is almost certainly the chillest mayoral campaign in history.

Only 36% of eligible voters cast a ballot in the 2022 #VanPoli election… which means your vote counts even more than you think! In a city of roughly 680k people, a candidate can be elected with as few as 37k votes. Every vote counts, please get out there and do it!

🚨🗳️Today is the final day of advance voting. Ken Sim and ABC can only win if there's a low voter turnout. Voting is open until 8pm today at any of 59 locations across Vancouver. And if you've already voted, sign up to help us boost voter turnout: www.evictkensim.ca/the-people-s... #EvictKenSim

When you go to vote, please thank your election workers — they were very nice and helpful — and if you see people still out canvassing for candidates, thank them as well! #VanPoli

I have a folder with work from undergrad that I'm proud of. Every essay is from a term where I was taking 3-4 classes because I had time to consider a topic, pore over sources, and write something informative and structured. Even 5 classes was a completionist survival nightmare and I hated it.

John Warner@biblioracle.bsky.social

This student in the article wants to do an in-depth research paper, but he's also taking seven classes. Seven! Why is he taking seven classes? What is this system that incentivizes checking boxes on seven classes over deep learning in five (or four) classes?

Obviously, a point is a great result when you're a player down for 95 mins on the road. But big picture, it feels like points dropped for the Whitecaps who are 5W-5L-4D in MLS since the WC. Injuries/availability are a factor, but don't like the odds if they end up 'backing into' the playoffs.

For months I kept hearing about new health issues in Kitimat. Bouts of pneumonia. Newly diagnosed respiratory illnesses. Next door is LNG Canada, the second-highest flaring LNG facility worldwide in 2025. For @thetyee.ca I investigated what we do and don't know about Kitimat's air. 🧵 1/6

And to be clear, when I say “uninhabitable”, people will still live there. They will just the the people who have no other choices and cannot afford to move elsewhere. We are looking down the barrel of a ‘climate apartheid’ system. #BCpoli #CanPoli

As is the case with the Carney-led industrial projects: nobody is monitoring this... No matter how good the attack is, some basic defensive competency is required. Allowing 1.1 xG on 4 shots (and really it was only three) is bad.

DC are a terrible team — I genuinely lost count of how many times they passed the ball out of play, unforced — but the Whitecaps just kept spotting them chances and eventually, those chances are going to go in the net.

I think Ed Sheeran will be my new go-to example for illustrating how people who claim to be ‘apolitical’ are just following the path of least resistance; which in our society means obsequious deference to capital at the expense of all else.

Instead, Sheeran sides with Kraft and picking a side is an inherently political act, regardless of your motivation. You can see this in his ‘apology’ for talking about things other than music, without recognizing that he’s allowed Kraft to hijack his tour to further Kraft’s political agenda.

I also wanted to make a point about Sheeran’s position within colonialism, but this post really hits the nail on the head👇 bsky.app/profile/the-...

Piper@the-pied-piper.bsky.social

Him being English but having a connection to the Irish which he tried to play up for this exact tour only for all those Irish artists and even family members to react exactly in accord with well-known Irish cultural norms and his inability to understand it is an exemplary microcosm of colonialism.

In theory, the ‘apolitical’ path for Sheeran would have been to ignore Kraft: “Robert, I’m not about politics, Macklemore does his music and I do mine… let’s not get in the way of showing fans a good time and making money.” That would be apolitical: declining to pick a side, refusing to ‘vote’.

#RSLvVAN FT thoughts: • Important for the Whitecaps to crush a bad team • Trend continues of errant passes in key moments, leading to dangerous breaks. But unlike recent games, no gaping holes at the back • Got a few lucky bounces, but kept a clean sheet, which is huge given recent results

I will caveat this by recognizing that I am not normal. I prefer to have an NDP minority government with the green party holding the balance of power (à la 2017). I recognize that's not a popular political philosophy in Canada. #BCPoli #CanPoli
