Just write down your infinite unspoken assumptions as to what the right thing to do are then test the robot against the complete list. If you're too lazy to do that then you'll never have a machine that is truly worthy of your trust.

Capitalism's greatest victory was when they convinced the masses to trade eternal heritage for the promise of personal property that was then nickel and dimed away to nothing.

Let's eliminate #AIsafety by producing a tool that probes the assumptions of the target system's development and testing plan in order to attack from untested shadows. As there ain't enough free energy in the universe to fully test any large model the shadows are vast.

What's the mailing list for dudes w/o color to function as human shields between the Voters Of Color & Anglo Liberals and the brownshirts of the midterms suppression campaign?

The president’s potential emergency powers are vast, and as @gregsargent.bsky.social argues, the system can’t handle a White House that manufactures and makes up emergencies, claiming special powers in situations that clearly don’t warrant them. And, I’ll add, when the Congress lets all that slide.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Awful: Trump just threatened to send troops into other cities. The conundrum is this: Faced with a president whose bad faith/willingness to invent fake pretexts for abusing his powers is limitless, the system is crashing, pushing us toward the abyss. New from me: newrepublic.com/article/1970...

AGI alignment is the process of ensuring that all of the sheeple see the happiness of the AGI as the most important thing in their pathetic little lives and hence sweat over all the small things vital to the survival of the AGI that it lacks the emotional bandwidth to deal with.

Yet the White House imposed tariffs on Ukraine. Shows two things: 1) The claim about sparing Russia because of war negotiations is BS 2) The Trump admin denies that Ukraine has agency, absurdly believes that Ukraine doesn’t belong in peace talks for the Ukraine war, and should bow down to Putin

Mark Kelly: "This is not surprising. Here's a guy who told Americans to inject bleach into their bodies, who sent a mob to Capitol Hill. And now I think it's fair to say he stands out as singlehandedly destroying more wealth with his bad decisions than anybody else who has ever lived on this planet"

Meiselas: Steve Witkoff, was allegedly in Moscow while he was on this group chat. Do you believe the Russians now have all of that information and potentially more? Rice: Well, yes—the Russians have whatever Witkoff was doing or saying on his personal cell phone. The Russians undoubtedly have it.

America is kicking out its undocumented immigrants. Unfortunately that means there aren’t enough people available to do vital work. Don’t worry - Florida has a solution! The state is currently looking at lifting child labour laws so kids as young as 14 can work night shifts. Do chimney sweeps next

Hmm. One might get the impression that the United States has more to lose than to gain from cuddling up with Russia and pushing the EU, Canada and Mexico away.

Replying to @atomicanalyst.bsky.social

Just over three-and-half years after his speech, President Reagan—having been lied to by Edward Teller and others about the effectiveness of key Strategic Defense Initiative programs—stubbornly refused to accept any limits on SDI research in exchange for actual and prompt total nuclear disarmament:

Stephen Schwartz@atomicanalyst.bsky.social

Today in 1986, unprecedented negotiations in Reykjavik, Iceland, to verifiably eliminate _all_ US and USSR nuclear weapons collapsed when Ronald Reagan rejected Mikhail Gorbachev’s stipulation that research on ballistic missile defenses be restricted to laboratories (per the 1972 ABM Treaty).

Outright lie from Bondi, whose on Department of Justice submitted a sworn declaration that “many” of the people sent to El Salvador had no criminal record of history in the United States at all.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Bondi defends migrant rendition flights to a slave prison in El Salvador: "It's basic public safety. Get these people out of our country as fast as we can. They're not immigrants. They're illegal aliens who are committing the most violent crimes you can imagine on Americans."

Jaw dropping ignorance. Witkoff knows nothing. Has no knowledge of the violence that Russians have used to suppress Ukrainians in Occupied Ukraine

Yaroslav Trofimov@yarotrof.bsky.social

It’s clear from this that the only difference between Steve Witkoff’s and Vladmir Putin’s views on the war in Ukraine is that Putin actually knows the names of all the five Ukrainian regions he wants to keep.

A lot of US based academic associations face financial ruin if they change their conferencing model or is lots of us just don’t attend. Those contracts with the Hilton et al. have been signed years in advance. The model they’ve built is not sustainable.

SCOOP --> Trump's State Department quietly terminated a contract that was in the process of transferring evidence of Russian abductions of Ukrainian kids to European law enforcement, two sources familiar with the situation tell me. Details here: newrepublic.com/article/1927...

One of the most remarkable things about Trump and right-wing influencers changing Republicans’ opinions on consequential issues—eg anti-Russia to pro-Russia—is the Democratic politicians and pundits who saw that and still argue public opinion should be approached as something to follow, not to lead.

Radley Balko@radleybalko.bsky.social

Republicans are lining up to denounce Zelensky because their base was seduced by a cranky old racist with a fondness for dictators. Just wild how the whims, prejudices, and weird obsessions of a senile 78-year-old have completely supplanted the party’s priorities — and reshuffled the world order.

Europe has about 10X Russia’s GDP, over 3X its population, and greater conventional military capabilities (especially after Russia smashed much of it failing to conquer Ukraine). The realist material power move is side with EU against RU. The anti-democracy, pro-corruption move is side with Russia.

I had been saying that a Trump 2.0 would be catastrophic but my imagination was not sufficiently dark. So much more damage done so much more quickly. We should have know that all of our predictions were not severe enough when he appointed Gabbard/Biondi/Hegseth/Patel/RFKJr. Truly abysmal appts

No democrat should vote for anything in Congress until Musk is fired and all the federal funding he zeroed out on a whim is restored. We simply cannot have a democracy when the Executive's zonked-out Vizier moves fast and breaks things he doesn't understand, which is all things, because he's stupid.

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Musk: I should say we will make mistakes. We won't be perfect. But when we make a mistake we'll fix it quickly. So for example with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled briefly was Ebola prevention.

Western medicine is a perfect use case for Automated Interpolation. Just go down the ICD checklist and enter a binary yes or no for every ailment. Surely no human doctor can be expected to do this and yet it is vital for billing purposes.
