Yeah but it had the archivist character wearing white gloves so it's a no from me
May We Feed the King by Rebecca Perry is ‘affecting and lush jewel of a novel that moves between our present-day world to a medieval court and unsettles the idea that there’s ever one universal historical truth’. @grantamag.bsky.social Find out more: https://thebookerprizes.pulse.ly/liata4dapk
This reminds me of the Dara Ó Briain standup about 'fear of zombies' being at all time high, whilst attacks by zombies being at an all time low. These people are 'terrified' of a problem which, where it does exist, has been dramatised and hyperbolised by grifters.
What’s going to be the wake up call here? It’s not the press doing Der Sturmer or regular fascist riots, it’s not a visibly decaying public realm, it’s not ludicrous corruption or the country baking in barely tolerable temperatures, or thousands drowning in the Med, it’s not war crimes and genocide.

We don't often come across a 12th century seal that still looks so clear and vibrant! It was the seal of William, Earl Ferrers and this deed from 1167 details the sale of a mill and some land from Ralph of Seale to Ralph of Gresley, William's son. #EYASurprise #seal #medieval
I love photos from the Finsen Light Department. The nurses always look so cool!
Remember to protect your eyes during the #eclipse this evening! Make sure to wear eclipse glasses or use the pinhole technique ☀️👓😎 This London Hospital nurse is treating a patient using a lens to focus sun rays on to the face of the patient with Lupus Vulgaris (a type of tuberculosis of the skin).

Really gutted to hear that Lincoln's historic Ellis Mill is at risk. I went on many school trips where we milled our own flour and learned about the agricultural heritage of our county. I'd be so sad to see it go! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Find somebody who loves you the way that @ermerlindaj.bsky.social loves early modern public sanitation projects 💧
Last Friday, as part of their 'Filth and Health' conference, we welcomed members of the British Archaeological Association for a display of documents relating medieval and early modern sewers and water supply at St Bartholomew's Hospital (and to enjoy the archives air conditioning!)
So we discussed this at book club last night and even my two non-archivist best friends agreed this was a lazy portrayal. It's a shame because the rest of the book was really interesting! If you're interested in reading it it's May We Feed the King - Rebecca Perry.
I know there are bigger things to be concerned about, but I am unreasonably angry about a book I'm reading and the portrayal of archivists. Firstly - WHITE GLOVES. FFS. Also, the author has confused displaying things for a period in low light with viewing things in a search room.

trans toilet bans are pro-rape legislation by pro-rape politicians
So a trans woman I know, almost 70, now has to use male toilets? Why? She had gender reassignment surgery in the 1980s and has been using women's toilets for 40 years. She has never been a threat to anyone. Will she be safe in men's toilets? Where's the law to protect her?

Collections policies exist for a reason. We've had lots of people trying to give us documents, even when we've been at events across the county and have no way of safely taking the documents back to the archive. Sadly we have to turn these people away, but this is for the benefit of the documents.
Incredible, once again Spain has outdone themselves on heritage conservation. I've never seen colonoscopy used as a verb! english.elpais.com/culture/2026...
