Curious about everything - cosmology, astronomy/astrophysics, geology, chemistry, archaeology, palaeontology, art, engineering, architecture. Enjoys reading, especially dystopian sci-fi and satire. π¨π¦We bow to no one. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum. π¨π¦

Smoke signals in space π¨ The Fine Ring Nebula, shown here, looks like an almost perfect circular ring β yet most planetary nebulae are either spherical or elliptical in shape, or bipolar. Why this unusual shape? Find out: https://www.eso.org/public/images/potw1131a/ π #flashback

I did a mosaic with the Dwarf Mini last night of M31. I used Naz's script for smart telescopes to combine the panels, and processed it in Siril and Gimp. This is the result. Each of the panels (2x2) is a stack of 100 30-second sub frames. @naztronomy.com @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social #astrophotography

Ask Ethan: Can we solve the mysteries of the largest black holes? In 2004, black hole TON 618 was announced: with a mass of 66 billion Suns, just 3 billion years after the Big Bang. The theoretical limit was 50 billion Suns by today. So what gives? bigthink.com/starts-with-... #space #astro
