I am just fascinated with how iPhone Duo handles Lock Screen wallpapers. Realize you can set their crop and position for each orientation so they fit properly.

Glad that William managed to get one. Excited for our next episode!

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

If there's anything more idiotic than spending $2,000 on an iPhone Duo, it's getting up at 4:00 AM to go buy it. I did both of those things, and am so relieved to say I'm glad.

Kind of wild how iPhone Duo is a better iPad mini in almost every respect except two. You get iPadOS and Apple Pencil Pro support on iPad mini. On iPhone Duo, among other things, you get ProMotion.

I'm aware others make more noise about people returning to X. If you don't like it, block them! I didn't like how some people behaved in these situations, so I unfollowed them and stopped listening to their podcasts or reading their articles. You can just do things and not write a blog about it!

I thought the doomers were on Bluesky?

Charlie Warzel@cwarzel.bsky.social

a nontrivial portion the ai and cybersecurity people on X are doing the ‘time to take out money and have food water and medication on hand in case everything goes dark’ stuff and i for one don’t love that

iPhone Duo day one impressions: - the outer display is totally usable, if anything, desirably shaped and sized - camera is great! See cat-> - non updated apps work totally fine on outer display, a non issue until updated - lots of interesting design choices that'll evolve with time - no crease!

Looks like my initial assessment over camera specs in iPhone Duo has proven correct. I'll be verifying myself when I get mine tomorrow, but it seems like you'll get comparable shots to iPhone 17 Pro in 95% of conditions for the main camera, and you'll miss optical telephoto if you used it. Great!

Passkeys next?

Bluesky@bsky.app

Also new in today’s v1.136 update: iPad support! One of our most-requested features is finally here in beta. Try out the Bluesky app on your iPad, and if you see anything off, let us know under Settings > Beta features.

"I can't take good concert photos on my iPhone Duo" Put your fucking phone away and stop trying to take pics at a concert which you'll literally never look at again. Yall are ridiculous lol

The choice is simple for me: I'll use apps that work great with Duo and won't use the ones that don't. As apps are updated, I'll evaluate. Good thing I don't use Google or Meta apps.🤣

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Apple has announced a slew of developers who have updated their apps to fit the iPhone Duo, but despite some surprises, there are still so many more who haven't had time.

Apple Vision Pro: it still exists! I love this thing, but Apple's heart is clearly in the Duo at the moment.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Review: After a year of use, it remains clear that the Apple Vision Pro benefits from the power of M5, even if not much else changed. Apple's work is far from over.

As long as you ignore the owner, the grifters selling snake oil AI, the legions of political extremists, the generated CSAM and NCII, the propaganda, the misinformation, and every attempt to collect your personal data, sure, you might have a couple dozen accounts you can follow worth anything.

This post is unavailable.

Ya'll out here really thinking the worst when the specs page literally told a different story. Latching onto focus pixels was always a mistake. Duo is going to be an interesting camera even if it's not the "best" by iPhone standards. I really feel like I won't be missing much beyond the telephoto.

Christian Selig@selig.bsky.social

Looks like the rumors were wrong, HTX Studios x-rayed the Duo and its camera sensor looks the same size as the regular iPhone 17 *not* the 17e 🥳

More positive than you'd expect from a new Apple product. Especially for an iPhone.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

The iPhone Duo is a big departure from the norm for Apple, and it's in the hands of critics. Here's what the first reviews say about the foldable smartphone.

Corporations aren't people. If you see a high-profile executive of a corporation posting on social media, it's probably not them, but a member of a team posting PR. Unless it's Tim Sweeney, that guy is a moron who can't shut up on main.

Apple could have designed a CEO in a lab and couldn't have done better than Ternus for the position.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

"Design is how it works" rings true at Apple today, and John Ternus wants to assure everyone that respect for the user and building products that are beneficial is "job one."

Looking for permission for your bad behavior through the actions of others is almost always a sign your behavior is bad. Good people doing good things generally don't have to ask the room if what they're doing is good and okay. Use X if you want, but stop trying to justify it.

hachyderm.ioLex Friedman (@lexfri@hachyderm.io)I can’t believe we’re still arguing over whether X is for jerks: https://lexontech.org/i-cant-believe-were-still-arguing-over-whether-x-is-for-jerks

Apple's business model makes it unable to address what gamers actually want on its platforms, and it really sucks.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

An interview with the new App Store Worldwide head shows Apple is still playing by the same rulebook that fails to nail down what gamers want or need from a mobile platform.

"Actually, the algorithm showing me things that only reinforce my world view and prevent me from seeing anyone upset at the status quo is very pleasant." is such a fucking wild take I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. You're tired of doomers on Bluesky? *You* control what you see. wtf

When someone says "who is this for?" The answer is simple: not you. Learn to live in a world where everything isn't custom-tailored to you. Also, realize that any time you can't think of a use case, realize you've probably forgotten about the accessibility angle. Everyone always does.

Finally a set of Apple announcements that won't cost me money.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Apple has another release event, and this one is called "Pro and Tell." This is what will make an appearance on the day, including one very long-awaited MacBook Pro upgrade.

Wesley Hilliard reposted

Please Apple/Beats, collaborate with Pokemon more often. I will literally give you all the money. If you've never had a Beats Pill, the 2024 model is probably the best portable speaker out there at $150. No joke.

If you're an Apple Health user, the only metrics that sync from these things can be obtained by a $30 smart scale that syncs to Apple Health for free. Madness.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Withings has introduced an Apple Health Sync paywall, requiring all new users to pay $99.99 each year to see their weight within Apple's default Health app.

HomeView is for me and at least 3 other people. To be fair, this is a niche of a niche product, but that price makes it much easier to say "yeah, just buy one" versus something that is also super niche, like Apple Vision Pro.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Apple's HomeView is trying to do a lot. So much, in fact, that it makes me wonder if there was a point where Apple ever thought to ask if it was doing too much.

I still find it hilarious that people continue to say "Apple is behind at AI" even as AI companies and their users seem obsessed with how good Apple equipment is for AI processing.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Meta worked with Apple to bring its massive Muse Spark Open AI model to M5 Ultra Mac Studios, letting developers run advanced AI locally instead of relying on cloud servers.

Trick answer: it's both. That 120 Hz will cost you nearly $1,000 for an iPad mini, while a less expensive model will still be 60Hz.

Final Fantasy VII mentioned? Hell yeah. Now do a show on Cloud's insane highway bike battles in Advent Children as Nomura says "fuck physics." What's crazy is even though Shinra is a metaphor for oil companies, Barrett's canonical fallback plan from literal recycled souls as energy is oil. 🤣

Happy to have my suspicion confirmed. This thing can easily be slapped into any socket where a light switch currently sits. Like with HomePod, I expect sales, "certified refurbished," etc to allow me to obtain several of these relatively cheap.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

We've learned a few finicky details from Apple's HomeView launch, including how the live security camera tiles work, how photo albums are displayed, and how to mount the display where a light switch used to be.

I've been writing this as a concept since Apple first announced Apple Intelligence in 2024. It's simply a different product meant to serve users more broadly, more simply, and mostly invisibly. It's everything modern "AI" doesn't want to be, and investors hate it.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Apple Intelligence isn't made to be like Claude, Grok, or other AI tools that the Silicon Valley "lunatic fringe" praise, says Greg Joswiak, it's built to help regular users.

Kind of reminded me of being able to use your PS3 to perform "Folding@home" to simulate protein folding. Except that was cool and AI sucks, so it is what it is.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

Apple has detailed a new system, called Minions, that uses the idle GPUs found in Apple Silicon Macs to create a virtual GPU cloud that combines the untapped processing power to chew through complex AI workloads.

Bribe? Extortion? The result is the same: corruption in the White House. Stop asking or expecting corporations to be your heroes and fight your battles for you.
