Been away from BlueSky for a bit but just received tenure! Big thank you to my many many mentors and colleagues. And, of course, my family. Truly a team effort. Also, this video took like six tries to get right 🫠

I have a thousand positive memories of Greg. At the bar, playing music, talking science. RIP and thank you for everything

Very upsetting to hear the sad news of Greg Hannon’s passing. I always enjoyed our far too few conversations we had over the years. He had an interesting and insightful perspective on any science being discussed. He will be missed. www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/news/in-memo...

This was a fun project for which Mattie @mschwall95.bsky.social visited our lab to try root live imaging. Of course the roots wouldn't grow during the week she was here until the last day, but she got it to work when she got back. Cool results.

Thanks for the invitation, Sunil! Very nice to be back. Also, it was 79 degrees in Riverside and Philly was like 0 degrees, so….yeah😂

Had a fantastic time hosting my friend @husbandslab.bsky.social (an alum of our Plant Biology Graduate program @ucriverside.bsky.social) Cool talk on paralog-specific regulation of transcription factor families! Exciting discussion on evolutionary and regulatory divergence! #GeneRegulation

Thanks Carolyn! Very nice to be back in my old stomping grounds 😄

Awesome talk today from @husbandslab.bsky.social about transcription factor binding specificity and activity. He’s an assistant professor at UPenn and UCR alum ! 🌱🧪

Please stop saying the bill allows "no more multi-year funding" - or at least be clear the 'more' is in reference to disastrous FY25 levels. The bill allows 39% MYF, same as in FY25, which contributed substantially to a 24% drop in new research. The bill has some wins. MYF is not one of them.

Denis Wirtz@deniswirtz.bsky.social

Both chambers of Congress have now passed the FY26 minibus with NIH provisions. The President will sign. (1) $48.7 billion for NIH (2) Full IDC recovery (3) No more multi-year funding (4) No NIH reorganization, maintaining the current IC structure.

This is a very special paper for me. I had the idea of combining transcription factor binding with chromatin in 2016/8. It took some time, but thanks to Fred and Vikas, we can finally share the story in @plos.org Genetics looking at chromatin states in Arabidopsis and Marchantia. #PlantScience

Histone covalent modifications and histones isoforms, also called histone variants provide most of the complexity of chro...

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again. www.nature.com/immersive/d4...

Someone got Cas9-Turbo to work. It's like basically Y1H but with proteomics. It however requires transgenic plant expressing Cas9-Turbo and gRNAs, which is still cumbersome for many plants that are not Arabidopsis. #PlantSciences

Can we design mutations that bias proteins towards desired conformational states? Today in @science.org, we introduce Conformational Biasing (CB), a simple and scalable computational method that uses contrastive scoring by inverse folding models to identify conformation-biasing mutations.
