it’s easy to take for granted just how spectacularly good This American Life is, week in week out, for years and years

idk why people talk about “stomp clap” like it was some kind of scourge when really it was a handful of bands who were somewhat popular for like five years

new mexico, new jersey, new orleans, new hampshire and new york will now be known as new america, new america, new america, new america and new america, respectively

during the iraq war the news had this term “insurgents” to describe the enemy. only later did i understand insurgents were people who fought back when we invaded their home

i’m starting to suspect jack smith doesn’t like or respect the people actively trying to put him in prison

Jack Smith at last night’s Power to the People concert, wearing a Springsteen/No Kings shirt.

episode of It's Always Sunny called "The Gang Gets Experienced" and it's an immaculate 35mm concert film of the Jimi Hendrix Experience that nobody knew about previously

i agree on principle that huck finn is worthy of being taught but realistically if i were a high school teacher i would probably avoid the book with a ton of racial slurs because it would be a huge pain in the ass that i don't want to deal with

absolutely no chance kamala wins a primary so it’s a moot point

Would a 2028 Harris campaign mean reliving 2024? Pete Buttigieg says no. “This is about bigger things than whether somebody gets their feelings hurt by a page in a book,” he said. “This is about the trajectory of Western civilization.” 🔗 politi.co/3RSLiin

ross was my favorite member of the right wing columnist wack pack and the truth is i will miss him the way howard stern's audience missed hank the angry dwarf

Oliver Darcy@oliverdarcy.bsky.social

Scoop: I’m told that Ross Douthat is exiting The NYT and is expected to take a role at “60 Minutes.” News expected to be announced soon.

this is the biggest reason i like living in big cities. i value the food / culture / jobs etc but mostly i just like having more Places To Go

i knew a security guard in florida who was from new york and referred to himself as a “9/11 first responder” because he was a security guard in new york during 9/11. not at the towers or anywhere near them

I’m sorry, no. This is not the guy who did the reflecting pool. No. Come on. We’re just putting a hat on a hat here. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/18/u...

everyone else in the world always says, "new york city will never be a major metropolitan area situated along the eastern seaboard! never!!!" and every morning we wake up and prove them all wrong

right wing guys always do this, they start a joke and then get so excited that they start adding more stuff in the middle of the joke until it doesn’t make sense

even if AI really does take over the world, being able to write on your own will become like driving stick, or knowing how to operate a telegraph machine, or starting a fire without matches. in other words it will be very cool

one of my favorite facts about the US coal industry is that it employs less people than Broadway

Paul Waldman@paulwaldman.bsky.social

Another interesting fact: When I wrote that piece in 2019, 6,569 people in Kentucky, or 1 in 500 working age adults, were employed in coal mining. Today the number is 3,843, or about 1 in every 1,000 working age Kentuckians. But we have to save coal! Data here: eec.ky.gov/Energy/News-... 3/3
