shitting on indie animation, and im including drawovers "fixing" supposedly bad design and edits "fixing" comedic timing, is a gateway to becoming a kiwifarms chud

these days im not even sure if there is a blameless way to hate anything. i think the only way to dislike something correctly is to truly love it

im upset bc zeehondencentrum, the seal center that rescued internet-viral seals like chabashira, witje and many more, is facing bankrupcy (unexpected financial stress caused by the development of their new facility, withdrawal of government funding, and low visitor income) #seals #sealsky

theres smth grossly anthropocentric about the idea that proximity to human-like speech & reasoning (which they are designed to emulate) is proof of sentience. are u implying that ppl who dont think or verbalize in a normalized way (like children or ppl with disabilities) or animals, are less alive??

this is why i think the idea consciousness as an 'emergent' property is not good. ur saying consciousness could conceivably emerge from a complex enough program. i just dont think its possible. but with enough training data, it might be hard to tell the difference from the outside

someone replied to me elsewhere, "'you' listen to signals from your brain and body and 'captain the ship'". so if i start plucking out ur eyes, ears, nose, mouth one-by-one, and then ur nerve endings, blood vessels & brain cells, will i find this captain hiding underneath? brother YOU ARE THE SHIP

sam altman has compared water usage for training ai w water usage for feeding a human being. but u can only justify building infrastructure at the expense of real human beings if u believe that ai is 'more' alive & 'more' sentient bc of its ability to think and speak 'harder' than a person could

when you say you put the consciousness of a fly in a simulation everyone believes u but when you say that consciousness is an inherent property of all physical matter everyone goes insane

genuinely curious if anyone is currently (or has ever) made a concerted effort to avoid lettuce or produce.... most of the responses ive seen are like "i ate lettuce (less than 2 weeks ago) and im totally fine!" or "i dont eat vegetables anyway" and i feel crazy
