My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Re: the Turek ad. I hope he loses. Goes down in flames. Dems have to learn this is not the path forward. Either all of us have rights or none of us do. No negotiating the basic humanity of my friends and family no matter what.

I think using genAI to make images, even little insignificant ones, is hobbyless loser behavior. It completely sours my opinion on people forever, even if they have done good stuff in the past. If you think that is an overreaction or "crashing out", you can take your cringe comp screenshot and go.

Ah, the auto influencers have explained that this carbon fiber-wrapped ball, which sits right behind the driver's head, holds about 100kg of nitrogen pressurized to about 10,000 psi. Let me just go review the tolerances people found in their Cyber Trucks

been thinking lately that the modern GOP is the result of society becoming so complex that nobody understands most of the systems that govern our lives so we all rebel against expertise

The fact that John Carpenter's The Thing was slammed by critics and audiences for being "too cynical" and "not heroic enough" because it wasn't saying that humanity (as in, the US) is wholely good and it's enemies are wholely evil, is proof that the culture wars in art have cycled for a long time

This week, NIH advisors rebuked RFK for harming #NIH and US science. Sheryl Gay Stolberg reported it. Then RFK posted calling her sources anonymous or corrupt. I'll say this hoping it does good: I'm an NIH scientist, I'm not anonymous, and RFK Jr is destroying NIH. More in attachment:

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

NVIDIA seems to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery. The argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into is nonsense...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now, or else. GPUs are stacked in warehouses.

I still think that the rise family estrangement and people cutting off parents and stuff now doesn't reflect a new attitude towards family so much as it being way harder to just not talk to people without making a thing out of it now.

this is the kind of shit that would get violent punitive expeditions launched ~100 years ago

I think the fact there are people in the comments like "no don't speed :<" kinda feed into why legalism style morality is a problem. Everyone is technically breaking the law but "Driving with the natural flow of traffic" gets thrown in the same basket as "reckless speeding".

(the general research says 'people barely pay attention to speed limits and drive at a speed that seems safe and appropriate for the road and if you want people to drive faster or slower, you should design the road accordingly')

You mfers coming in here "but no, don't speed it's dangerous" need to shut the fuck, if you drive the speedlimit on the highway here during rush hour you're actually a safety hazard.

A big part of my stance against AI is like... we don't need to be making technological progress ALL the time. We're bombing innocent people for economical reasons, we can't feed everyone, our society is just broken. I don't care about polishing the turd with fancy tech, sorry.

I'd suggest sneering "insane bullshit" at someone for feeling stressed out about having to handle hours on the phone over a half million dollar bill after dealing with a birth and NICU stay is why people can't stand you
