Speaking from my field, environmental law, we actually are making so much progress despite all the news: renewable energies are more affordable than ever before and the technology keeps improving We also DID manage to eliminate the +6, +5, +4 degrees scenarios in 20 years: we need to keep going !!

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Monthly report for September is out! www.davidrevoy.com/article1180/... I'm sharing making-of and behind-the-scenes, high-resolution images, timelapses, brushes, layered files, tutorials, hardware reviews and more. Thank you for all the comments and your amazing support!

Ok WARDOGS has me hooked for now. Played a couple hours today (too hot to do literally anything else) and really got the hang of flying the MH-6 helicopter. Kept one alive for an entire match and made some good money, too. The Lakota doesn't work with HOTAS, though. I was really excited to fly it.

I'm finding WARDOGS interesting. The monetary system makes you think more about how you approach the game. In the Battlefield series, you didn't want to die because it gave the other team points. In WARDOGS, you change your play style on what you can afford. Crash your helicopter too many times?

Now, you build FOBs. Or drive. Or drop in the hot zone. Or... You just received for the 50th time because the other team won't stop raining mortars on your tower. I'm hooked. My Gladiator NXT (HOTAS) makes flying the helicopters a LOT of fun.

I couldn't stand watching the fun helicopter videos from WARDOGS. I forked over the cash to get s chance to do it. Time to neglect my other duties to get good at piloting imaginary helicopters! 🚁

20 year old me would be impressed, but so confused about where I am in life. Married, kids, California, dogs and horses... My career trajectory alone would lead to a lot of questions. It has been a trip!

Not all stories are told in Prose Some are meant to be performed. @cavu.page now supports screenplays written in the fountain format Read the first act of Lost Island - a Victorian, Cowboy, Samurai, Pirate, Dinosaur Adventure cavu.page/did:plc:dp7v...

I have this idea for a story about a Cowboy. He's Shanghaied in San Francisco and taken to the Far East where he finds himself on a voyage to a lost island. Basically a (historically plausible) chance to put a Cowboy, a Pirate, a Samurai, and a Victorian scientist on an island with Dinosaurs.

Been burning hard for a couple weeks, but my family got to spend a couple hours at the beach today. The beach is a special kind of release! We came home and I passed out for a bit. Now feel like a zombie. This coming week is a work travel week, with plane travel comes sorry writing (and editing)!

Look at Planty the Potted Plant! This plant is a cutting from my mother's, which she got from her mother. I've only barely kept it alive until recently. It's been growing longer, but I recently re-potted it. NOW! For the first EVER! It is REGROWING leaves! I've never seen it do this! I'm so happy!

I was actually getting ready to propagate some new roots further up the vine, and cut this whole section off. Then he started growing SO MANY new leaves! AAH!!! Apparently, if you take care of plant, and don't just let it turn into a ball of roots, then it actually grows...

I mean... They were real bad... I ended up having to cut the roots that had grown into the water reservoir just to get the rest of him out. He lost sooo many leaves after that, but he seems to be recovering well.

So I gave a talk yesterday about my page layout & digital painting process, and I'm entertaining the idea of turning it into a sort of tutorial that I'd make available online. We'll see...

This is absolutely heartbreaking... Dolly gave my kids their first books through the Imagination Library. I watched her show when I was little. She will be missed...

AI RANT Following the cancellation of three major debut book deals over AI suspicions, I decided to put my own (needless to say, 100% human-written) prose to the test. My detector of choice was Originality AI, and the results proved to be jarring, to say the least. 🧵1/5

More photographs of the Future Fossils Megalosaurus installations, this time from the Blenheim Palace social media ccount. We nicknamed the fighting/playing pair "Dancer" and "Pouncer" during design and construction.

I keep filling my plate with more things... The problem is that I am so excited by them! New land and house build, Homeward is becoming real. multiple jobs that are exciting in different ways. All of that on top of a great family that deserves every ounce of love I can pour into their buckets.

Happy Friday, everyone! Work travel is coming to a close, as I make the long trek home. Hoping to do some more #writing on my flights and layover, turbulence permitting. I have a Bluetooth keyboard going for my phone, which feels nicer than typing on the screen. So, I've got that going for me!

I am slow reader.

John Scalzi@scalzi.com

Sending this out to whoever needs to see it: It's okay if you read slowly, there's no great victory in being able to read quickly, everyone kind of has their own reading speed, and that's perfectly fine. I'm just really happy you're reading. I hope it gives you joy at any pace. Thank you!

It's a travel day for work. Hopping from airport to airport for a good majority of the day. Often, though, I find it easiest to write while flying. I think it is the quiet captivity and few distractions. Boredom is good for creativity! #writing

I was inspired by @scalzi.com's post about the recent author in hot water for using AI in their novel: https://bsky.app/profile/scalzi.com/post/3mrwzzpebfk27. As someone who is still pretty unknown, I apparently need to be able to prove I'm not using AI.

intolerantpacifist.leaflet.pubStance on AI I certify that I will never use AI in any part of my published works. It will not be a part of any of my workflow. My works are made by a human for humans. -IntolerantPacifist

This is a pretty awesome setup for ebooks on ATProto! I know I'll be watching the features and setup grow, as well as reading along. This might be perfect for my upcoming #Homeward project!

Chris Pardy@pardy.at

Over the next 6 weeks I'm releasing a Novella I've been writing called Honeyguide cavu.page/did:plc:dp7v... You can read and follow the story on Cavu Reader. Cavu Reader is the ebook on AtProto platform that I'm building. I'll be rolling out new features each week with each chapter of Honeyguide.

I am feeling really inspired to start getting my project out there for everyone to see! I have decided I'm going to start by publishing short stories and vignettes using @leaflet.pub. I want to get some reps in before diving into the release of the main project. More info to come on #Homeward!

I like this thought process. I have spent too much time calculating the course my character is plotting, finding actual star charts, then writing a Python program to help plot it in 3d. Now, I'm working out the stops along the way, which will have some character to them. Then, the quest begins...

To make a sci-fi setting feel believable, pick three worldbuilding problems Get one exactly right Get two almost right Now you can make up the rest

I made a mistake. Alaska Air offered 1st class and cash because they overbooked my first flight. So, I opted for a flight that was supposed to be about 1.5hrs later. Now it has been delayed by an hour. There goes 1/2 my work day.

🧵: I want to talk about Togruta lekku. I don't this thread on Tumblr with an interesting theory, that they lekku are for fat storage. But, if the Togruta actually had a form of echolocation, it would be more likely to mimic whale melons. They are fatty tissues, but used for only for this purpose.

In the melons of whales, the mix of triglycerides and wax esters create a sound gradient, helping to focus their projection and maybe reception of sound. Maybe, the lekku on Togruta project their clicks while they are heard using the facets of the montral for 3D directional location.
