Vivarium has been updated to 0.0.4 to track these changes. If you're testing a space capable app pointing it at Vivarium gives you a way to ensure you're staying on top of the planned features. tangled.org/chris.pardy....

๐Ÿช spaces alpha release ๐Ÿช folks, this is the big one! lots of updates across pretty core protocol mechanisms. hopefully the last/only of it's kind (tho we are planning another release next Thurs)

I'm excited to see Public Spaces as part of this release. That was the biggest gap in the previous implementation that I'd run into and it's going to be huge to have records that move between private and public access levels.

Man it's crazy that a small town like Heksenkill NY. can host a Mummy exhibit in their public library! They even got 4 of these authentic sarcophagus to display. I just hope nothing goes wrong Halloween night. Fright Fest atmosphere.games/chris.pardy.... Coming Friday #GameDev #Halloween

Also worth calling out, if you're developing with agents. Vivarium is very agent friendly. It ships an MCP server and has unauthenticated admin xrpc endponits. That means that you can setup accounts in your test or agent harness of choice. Also it supports spaces so you can build for the future

Coming soon, get that @rpg.actor costume on and get ready for a night of Trick-or-treating in Heksenkill NY Special in-game benefits if you're wearing a costume atmosphere.games/chris.pardy....

Put all together you'll visit cavu games forge and be able to, in your browser, create all the assets, and logic for a game, then play test that game with friends that are all over the world. Once you're happy you'll publish the game to your PDS and it will be playable for anyone.

The bar to entry on building games with this system should be the floor. But we're not quite there yet so DM me if you want to make a game and we'll make it a reality.

Second the code pipeline: Browser based, Metro code editor + custom LLM integration with cavu games specific system prompts. Write the Lua yourself or use one of our low cost models to generate the game logic. The coding agent + asset store should mean that you can create any idea you have.

Third the dev server: play.cavu.games is our hosted engine, but it has a mode where you can connect to it via iroh and run the actual game instance locally. It supports hot swapping assets and logic. The idea is to run the dev server in-browser, hooked into the asset and code pipeline.

First the asset pipeline: Aseprite replacement in browser but probably with a slightly more beginner friendly flow. Tiled replacement in browser (tilemap.world) again slightly more beginner friendly. Both of these feeding into each other + an asset store. Music as well but I'm not there yet.

Ok here we go: cavu.games/launch?game=... Let me know: 1) Did any of you get grabbed 2) How much candy did you get 3) Anything else that's up? 4) Would you play a few more levels if they existed Keep in mind there's some real jank in places, but I want you to tell me what's not working for you.

First level is almost ready to play-test for anyone interested. You're trick-or-treating with 2 people you follow on bluesky who have @rpg.actor sprites. I hope @iame.li and @tynanpurdy.com don't mind I'm using them for testing. There's still so much pixel art to make but the engine is working ok

The cool thing about the play.cavu.games endpoint is that it also acts as a proxy to a dev server running on your computer via iroh. That means that you can host a game locally and invite people to play with a play.cavu.games url. This supports hot reloading of game bundles to the client

Next up I'm working on the game forge which will include an in-browser version of the dev server. So you can edit and play your game with just a web browser. I'm looking at how I can incorporate low cost coding models to make game development more accessible.

play.cavu.games is our "cavu games engine" built in rust which uses lua for scripting. Games are going to be shipped as at-proto records so anyone with a working copy of the engine can run them. Being able to leverage the same engine for multiple games should reduce the level of effort to build.

Let's talk about AI and writing: For NaNoWriMo this year I'm taking on a very very ambitious project, the first of 9 novels (3 trilogies), short story collections, RPG systems, early reader books, and more. All of these are set in a richly detailed world I'm calling 8th Sea.

This would be a full-month full-time project with lots of revision if I did it by hand. Instead I can fire up my trusty LLM while I'm doing dishes and talk through ideas. I can have the full outline and world bible done before November starts

They're my ideas, the LLM is "pushing back" when they are contradictory or insensitive. I'm ignoring the glazing โ€“ I know how bad my ideas are. At the end of it I'll have a complete document to work off of. I didn't write a word of it but it's all my own creation.

I've taken a few forays into this world before but now is when I'm really laying out the full outline, doing the necessary world building, etc. It's expansive, there's at least 10 different distinct cultures that need to be fleshed out and grand cities where you see people from all over the world.

Messing about with clef flash to do image categorization for a inktober feed bsky.app/profile/did:... Generally I'd say these system 1 type models are pretty cool when you've got constrained tasks that can benefit from the speed and low cost.
