That time of year, back on my gamedev bullshit. This time digging around in Godot/C#. Little 2D turn-based dungeon crawler RPG using card mechanics and skill trees.

Bluesky breaks once a month. Doordash sends me text alerts despite having them disabled. My car’s app sent me a bunch of push notifications for other cars. My mortgage company’s website just straight doesn’t work. The list goes on. Big mystery why all this software is falling apart more and more…

gotta feel for the guy, probably his first time realizing people were responding to his stand-up comedy in a way he didn’t anticipate or like

“Death of the author” is about literary analysis, separating intent from interpretation. It’s not relevant to the current issue, but it does suggest a solution that I could get behind.

Replying to @ryannorth.ca

"Content" is something to fill an empty vessel: it repositions your view of the world to align with corporations. Art becomes something disposable, fungible, serving a financial interest and nothing more. The word "artist" is right there; I beg you to claim it and leave "content creator" to molder

worth remembering, David Lynch directed “fix your hearts or die” specifically at transphobes. it wasn’t a generic “no mean people allowed” statement, it was said by his Twin Peaks character in defense of a trans woman he cared for and deeply respected.

Been cranking out first draft models. Nothing to write home about, but this little fox merchant guy turned out pretty cute.

Struggle to keep up dev momentum when you’re feeling sick, but these flaming skeletons aren’t gonna UV map themselves

Gamedev stalled out for about 7 weeks. Hit a series of snags teaching myself to make art assets I was happy with, and the day job ramped up at the same time. Started back up a couple weeks ago. Figured out a workflow for 3D modeling, found an art style that’s working, have a new roadmap. We movin!

I’ve got a ~6 week plan, at which point I’ll hit a crossroads: Keep on filling in the horizontals myself (by then, should have enough datapoints for a good delivery estimate), risking RL derailing me again, or Go mostly PM/Art Director mode and spend 5 figures out-of-pocket to get it done “sooner”

The silver lining to the modern “7 year gamedev cycle” is that means many devs might have job security for 7 years and 2 weeks.

Democrats can and must make it clear there will be trials and anyone even somewhat associated with ICE will face them. Maybe give a quit-your-job deadline on appeasement and give people 72 hours. I don't know. But currently the plan is to let them murder us in the street and get away with it.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street

Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

We only found out the true depth of the atrocities after the war. It’s not unreasonable to assume there may already be death camps and mass exterminations happening around us.

ICE apparently lacks capacity to oppress more than one city at a time. This is performative authoritarianism. performative authoritarianism that has killed people, yes. It’s not a joke. But it is also incapable of any sort of meaningful authoritarian consolidation. They lack the numbers to win.

Federal immigration officers are pulling out of a Louisiana crackdown and heading to Minneapolis in an abrupt pivot from an operation that drew protests around New Orleans and aimed to make thousands of arrests, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

In my mid-20s, I started telling hair stylists “cut off enough to last me a few months, but otherwise do whatever you think would look good on me.” Doesn’t work if you go to a cheap place, and don’t do it in like Oklahoma (unless you dig farmer chic), but that aside I get 100% better haircuts now.

I once asked on the other app if barbers take into account face shape when cutting hair and make recommendations. Everyone who replied to told me that was “gay” and “men don’t do that”…so then it dawned on me why so many of ya’ll be looking crazy

The only times I ever apologize for my demographic groups is when these hollow-eyed empty mayonnaise jars in suits stomp around doing racisms while saying they’re doing it on my behalf. Fuck off into the sun.

I’ve got the next 4 weeks of my gamedev project mapped out. The timeline is aggressive! And it’s full of things I’m not good at! But if I can survive this month, if should be far enough along to kick off a real closed beta. Or at least at a point where I won’t be embarrassed to show it to people.

Bishop Gamejam is coming to a close. Roaring success! Hit all my milestone goals and then some. Basically feature complete? There’s not a ton of depth until I flesh out the content more, and the visuals/audio are placeholder, but I think the core loop is… fun?

Took the week off work to get one of the games I’m solo-dev’ing out of alpha and into closed beta. Already been crunching all weekend, but officially LET THE BISHOP GAMEJAM BEGIN

Uploaded an early build to Steam on Friday. There’s a 3 week waiting period between when you create your first app and when you can generate test keys. So closed beta, coming soon!

Elevator pitch: What if RoR2 but a little more platformer and a little more bullet heaven? And as a fantasy vaporwave dungeoncrawler? And maybe - not now, but later with some luck & time investment - a little Cult of the Lamb-style village builder?

We’re staring down the barrel of yet another once-in-a-lifetime huge financial crash. When tariffs derail the chip manufacturing economy and investors stop floating the collective lie that AI has any real value, this bubble is gonna pop HARD
