Looking for examples: do you know any OSS projects that have thoughtfully updated their contribution process for AI-assisted PRs? Interested in: * PR templates asking for intent/reasoning * Comprehension checks * Other friction-adding methods Would love to learn from communities experimenting here

The U.S.'s current anti-diversity efforts are, predictably, having a direct affect on funding of #OpenSource software security efforts. I hope other sources - both public & private - will step up to help fund the essential role of open source software stewards.

as a condition of funding, we were asked to affirm that we wouldn’t undertake any diversity, equity, and inclusion work, whether or not we used the government funds to do so. The PSF simply couldn’t agree to that statement,

I posted this last week, asking for #Python users to fill out a silly little survey. I got quite a few responses! I can use this! It'll be hilarious! I can still use more answers, though. I hope with a few more responses I get more obvious standouts answers. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Use #Python at all? I would like to do a silly thing, which I hope will bring amusement to others as well as me (if it works out). If you wouldn't mind, please fill out this form, and boost for reach: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

This transition to a Public Benefit Corporation is a huge milestone for us ✨. I am so excited about the future and the impact we will continue to have on the open source ecosystem.

"Open source should be nurtured and elevated as a public good." - Travis Oliphant That's why Quansight just became a Public Benefit Corporation, formalizing our commitment to sustainable OSS infrastructure that powers global innovation. We're in this for the long haul. 🙌 bwnews.pr/3HdvSQ8

This is this Friday, here in Pittsburgh!!

Our summary document is the place to start, from there we organize and reference all of our evidence documents where we capture failures to pass Chartability test criteria. And if you're attending @pycon.us in 2 weeks, we will be sharing some of our work Friday May 16th! I hope to see you there.

For Global Accessibility Awareness Day #GAAD tomorrow, I hope that our publicly available work on accessibility and visualization is a helpful resource. This isn't a short and sweet top-5 list of things to do but a richly documented evaluation of the ecosystem of a data science tool.

I'm officially announcing a massive collaboration that I've been able to participate in: evaluating the accessibility of the Python visualization library, @bokeh.org! 🎉 In collab with folks from @quansight.com and @anacondainc.bsky.social, we present 76 documented findings plus our summary here:

I've noticed a concerning trend of "slop security reports" being sent to open source projects. Here are thoughts about what platforms, reporters, and maintainers can do to fight back: #oss #opensource #security #vulnerability #vuln #cve #slop #ai #llm sethmlarson.dev/slop-securit...

sethmlarson.devNew era of slop security reports for open sourceI'm on the security report triage team for CPython, pip, urllib3, Requests, and a handful of other open source projects. I'm also in a trusted position such that I get "tagged in" to other open sou...

Typical interaction in an #ADHD household: bumping into my partner at the house entrance. Him: where are you going with the dog? Me: to the groomers H: true forgot about it Me: where have you been? H: had to pick up the car from the garage, I told you yesterday Me: ah yes, I forgot about that

The last couple of weeks have been hard. This in particular feels the hardest for unknown reasons. Not having access to my #ADHD meds has created a big hole in my coping toolbox and I am experiencing ADHD burnout like never before. I am so glad to have an extended support network right now.

My week without meds so far: - keep having to ask what I was talking about mid way through the conversation - inbox driven overwhelm - forgot to drink water or eat then had a migraine - 12 hours work day followed by 12 hours sleep And it's only Wednesday

Once again there is a shortage of my #ADHD meds, tried every pharmacy in a 15 miles radius with no luck. Apologies to whoever needs a meeting with me in the next couple of weeks. It's going to be a wild ride.

Story of my life: Them: we are building/launching "whatever" and would love your feedback/insights/help to finalise our strategy Me: sure my hourly rate is "y" Them: we do not have a budget for this Me: so you were expecting free labour for your product/non-open source tool/business Them:...

The update nobody asked for: got my leg tattoo including the knee crevice (this is the most painful tattoo I have gotten ever). I am now living my best wooden leg pirate life 🫠

My birthday present from myself: I just booked a two day (two tattooist collab) session to get my leg sleeve tattoo started. Biggest tattoo project so far... So much anticipation

ADHD nightmare. Being in a video call with more than 10 people doing intro rounds and having to choose the next folk to introduce themselves. I can't even remember who called my name and 2/5 times I'll choose *that* person.
