I still want AOC for 2028, but I'm not against Ossoff. That would be an amazing ticket combo regardless of billing.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ossoff: "Foster kids don't have lobbyists or a super PAC. Neither do the women subjected to medical abuse in ICE detention. Neither do the female inmates sexually abused by the warden and the chaplain in their federal prison ... they deserve leaders who see them"

I'm excited for the near future, when my power goes off during a thunderstorm and every device screams in terror at their imminent deaths.

Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.

Yeah, my quality of life sure has improved since my coworker's husband was deported and she's now raising four children by herself. It's soooo great to think about the sadness in her eyes. FFS.

a lot of people act like there's a trade being offered where we give up trans athletes in sports and in exchange fascism is defeated forever

I'm currently reading about the Korean "Conflict" in which US soldiers were in "conflict" with Chinese "volunteers" that resulted in 30K US soldiers being "killed."

Blanche: "Secretary Hegseth is doing a phenomenal job. The secretary of war doesn't just go off and do things. He follows the law ... you called it a 'war.' I disagree with that characterization."

I don't understand what's difficult about this. Trans people exist, have autonomy, vote according to their principles, and don't appreciate being taken for granted. You know, like the rest of us?

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Will, I don’t know what else to say. Many trans people aren’t going to vote for Dems that call us biological males or advocate for healthcare restrictions. It’s a step too far. We won’t vote for Republicans, but we very well may leave those races blank. You can’t leave us behind to save yourself.

Engaging with your political enemy in a debate about the right of a minority to exist and be recognized is not fruitful, nor is it ethical. It's easy to ignore the trap and move the conversation to actual issues, like El-Sayed has done in Michigan.

And when a minority pushes back against your disingenuous treatment of them as a political football, to get upset with THEM and fault their personal decisions is absurd. Get a fucking life, Democrats. Pick a fucking side and stay on it, you cowardly Centrists.

If a Democrat throws them under the bus, but expects their vote because the Republicans will do worse than throw them under the bus, that's a dick move. It's not politically expedient, nor is it morally upstanding. It's punching down and then telling the victim to be happy that it was only a punch.

"People don't eat healthy, so shut up about measles" is a weird illogical statement.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

RFK Jr defends measles: "In 10 years, there have been 3 measles deaths in America. There are now about 1.2 million deaths every year from food-induced illness. The media and certain demagogic politicians are constantly trying to scare us about infectious disease."

Somewhere on the other side of the universe, polar opposite of Earth, someone is being born under the backward Scorpio sign and they're going to be the sweetest person ever. But that's a very INTP thing to say.

John Scalzi@scalzi.com

I was IQ tested when I was a kid and rode that high until Briggs-Myers tests came into vogue and then I reveled in being an INTP and now I recognize that both are basically the nerd equivalents of zodiac signs, but then that's a very Taurus thing to say, isn't it

Me, waiting for the asteroid: "Come onnnnnnn. Where is it?!"

Just a reminder that Candace Owens is getting paid $300,000 to debate a manosphere podcast bro about her Charlie Kirk murder conspiracies -- and it's being hyped like a prize fight. www.thebulwark.com/p/the-charli...

This man is a treasure. He's a politician with heart, which is sadly rarer than it should be.

The beautiful game. The people’s game. Throughout this World Cup, we have been reminded of a simple truth: football belongs to everyone. So does the joy and community it creates. Yesterday, I joined New Yorkers on Rikers Island to watch England take on Argentina.

This country is so dumb. One of a hundred lawmakers with lofty powers over the entire citizenry, requiring an electoral majority in their state to be seated, but they can be replaced by literally anyone if they die.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appoints Lindsey Graham’s sister to serve remainder of his Senate term.

"What I'll remember most about Jeffrey Dahmer was his love of odd cuisine and how he deployed it to random men around Milwaukee."

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

What I’ll remember most about Senator Graham was his sense of humor and how he deployed it to move his policy positions forward. Though we did not often agree, Senator Graham was never disagreeable.

I see a lot of patterns all around me, but I think I don't believe in conspiracy theories because they fit too perfectly within those patterns. It feels like fitting the curve.

Dr. Jonathan N. Stea@jonathanstea.bsky.social

People who fall for conspiracy theories have a greater tendency to detect patterns. But those patterns aren’t real. They’re random and illusory: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

I couldn't write something this ridiculous. I honestly need to know what universe this person lives in, because it is not this one.

Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, says he walks around worrying that someone who's hopped up on hormones and Trans surgeries is going to try and kill him.

Walter Cronkite: "Odds that JFK died at 1 pm Central Standard Time are paying 8-5 on Kalshi. Now here's the weather brought to you by Draft Kings."

Bill Grueskin@bgrueskin.bsky.social

This @juddlegum.bsky.social / @atrupar.com piece on how CNN & CNBC commentators regularly cite Kalshi odds, as if they're truly predictive of markets, is very much worth your time. And seeing people like Enten and Sorkin playing along is really disturbing. popular.info/p/how-kalshi... 1/

Absolutely insane that Cape Verde — a country of 500,000 — played Spain, Uruguay and Argentina…and lost to none of them in regulation. Easily one of the greatest performances in World Cup history.
