The IMLS recently revoked a $500K grant to the Museum of African America History (MAAH), on Boston's Beacon Hill, saying it "no longer serves the interest of the United States". ✨ they are wrong ✨ 1. go visit! (it's a short, pleasant walk from the Common) 2. consider a donation? www.maah.org

what UX research told ESPN that sports fans want the "looking ahead to the offseason" notification 0.02 seconds after their team is eliminated? Are there sickos who like this???

How are things going? I just used CMake to convert a semver string to a hexadecimal and pass it as a compiler define, and that dosn't crack the top 10 most cursed things I read this week.

Found a Dunkin card from 2017 (forgotten Christmas gift tucked in a book). Redeeming it in the app just worked. Should be unremarkable but I 100% expected it to fail. Shout out to simple, boring, reliable tech stuff that works 🥰

Hard to overstate how universally loved the Bears are where I'm from. More than any other sports team, celebrity, food, music genre, etc. People who say "I don't really watch sports" know what happened in the Bears game last night, know who Caleb Williams is. They belong here. This sucks.

And the Amtrak drops you off downtown on both ends, 0 cab/Lyft/bus required! Chicago folks who've never trained up for Summerfest - try it this year 😎

I sure did and you should do this if you can! Train or car to Milwaukee is super easy from Chicago.

I see far more local chicago content on here than i ever did on the bird app - it brings me so much joy. My politics is now happy neighborhoods and a sunny chicago day is the best

I'm an open source maintainer and a teacher, and find myself thinking/writing "was this LLM-generated?" often 😫 This piece is going to change how I approach that.

Hate that playoff basketball requires a streaming subscription, love that the broadcast team is D-Wade, Candace Parker, and Kevin Harlan. I'd listen to another 100 games of this.

bout 7 years ago, I bought $10 tickets to see Cory Booker give his stump speech at a restaurant in Chicago. Made a typo in my last name, one I've never made elsewhere. 7 years of relentless unsubscribing later, still getting fundraising emails from random out-of-state Dems, addressed to that typo 🙃

This post is unavailable.

Just caught someone trying to sneak a security exploit into LightGBM via a plausible-but-huge PR 😫 They wrote out exactly how they were trying to trick us in a public repo. If I weren't so angry I'd think that was funny. 😡 LLMs made the big do-evil button easier to reach, a human chose to push it.

Q: Pope Leo cited Matthew 25:35 to critique Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda. How would you respond to Pope Leo in scripture? MIKE JOHNSON: Sovereign borders are biblical and right and just. It's not because we hate the people on the outside. It's because we love the people on the inside.

If you look closely you'll see it... this is a Dave Roberts appreciation post 😁. Go Sox.

With pitchers and catchers reporting in 2 weeks, what are your favorite unbelievable-but-true baseball stats? I think for me, it's Mariano Rivera's 0.70 ERA in 141 post-season innings. In fun terms: More people (12) have walked on the moon than scored off Rivera (11) in the post-season.

I love this thread. I did a 26-hour Amtrak once and this is making me want to again.

Good morning! Last night I learned three important things: 1) My flight today from Toronto to NYC to give a talk in the Planetarium at AMNH tomorrow was cancelled due to the snow 2) The best alternative Air Canada could offer me was Wednesday morning: too late! 3) But there is a TRAIN 🚂

Walz: "To Americans who are watching this, I've got a question for you: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal govt that can kill, injury, menace, & kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such govt?"
