This review of BEASTS OF THE WILD BLACK absolutely slayed me. Just sat here giggling. Well played Amazon reviewer.
TBF, pretty much nailed my process. I feel seen.
In unrelated news, the sequel to The Wolf and the Wild King (The Forest duology) will be coming out next year, possibly June although the exact date isn't set yet. The Wolf is high fantasy perfect for the dark decline of the year. Read it to be ready!

I've said it before online, but as a kid I was so confused by Mr Roger's behaviour that I never expected to be the guy who came into the house and changed from one outer layer to another, almost identical (but softer) outer layer, and from one pair of shoes into another pair of shoes (slippers)...😅
At this point, because I work from home, I actually do it between the rest of the house and my home office a bit, because I have a "smart" fleece for work and a not-so-smart one for lounging around. Who have I become?? (There are worse people!)
Just saw a ridiculous scam ad where an old man says he's had to stop carving his unique birdhouses because of "arthretis" with melancholy music and idyllic images that are annoyingly consistent - except his voice keeps changing! And the individually carved products are all identical and creepy...

After the events of THE GOBLIN EMPEROR, Witness for the Dead Thara Celehar returns to solve mysteries plaguing the Elflands...
Bristolcon was a blast as always, it was nice to meet @amis.bsky.social and @dbrook.bsky.social who were both excellent. Playing D&D was awesome and it's always great to meet up with old friends and make new ones, I highly recommend it.
The 5-year cancer survival rate is up to 70%
SIDS deaths have decreased by over 50%
89% decline in tornado deaths
All thanks to federal investment in science and OUR tax dollars at work!
Just been to a sci-fi convention and I get outside after midnight and everyone's whizzing around on electric scooters and here I am walking like a 20th C schmuck.
#DEAL ALERT! Calling all one-clickers because THE ORDER OF THE PURE MOON REFLECTED IN WATER @zenaldehyde.bsky.social is on #sale on #Kindle US for a limited time only!

I also suddenly realized a few years ago that
• carrot is a vegetable
• one British slang term for policeman is “peeler”
• therefore Constable Carrot is a vegetable peeler
I don’t think this is ever explicitly mentioned in the text. A true pun-master, trolling us from beyond the grave.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Bioware is probably the reason a lot of people got into video games in the first place. The symbolism of Bioware being shut down is really something.

My favourite Temu mobile ad has to be the one where the woman is cleaning the cooker hood with a cloth and the man comes up with his little fake pressure washer gun and sprays the whole thing down. Cut to a bunch of fake shots of grease and grime being blown away...BUT TO WHERE? AND THE WATER??? 🙄

Breath and Bone ebook is on sale for a bit! How about a quote a day for the next two weeks? Link is to Amazon US but it's at all the usual suspects! www.amazon.com/Breath-Bone-...
Spending my evening with some 17th-century wills, which means encountering the archaic word "sperate," as in the opposite of "desperate."
(Sperate debts are debts you hope to collect, whereas you have lost hope in desperate debts.)
Trying a Reacher audiobook again and finding the narrator a bit less annoying in third person, even though I much preferred reading the first person one. Not so interested in what non-Reacher folks are doing, though I can see what they add to the story.
Was out with somebody who asked their AI app where to we should go for dinner on a business trip and...okay, the answer was decent, and shortcutted the normal palaver, but we passed a few places on the way there we could have at least looked at. And how do we know it's even an honest broker?
In another standing-room only British train and it beggars belief this is how to run a railway. People can't get to booked seats because of crowding, people without booked seats have to stand (or refuse to move) and they don't stop people getting on, can't add carriages or services, only apologize.

Oh and this doesn't even cover the fact that you'll never have internet right away because you don't get enough notice of your moving date to notify Openreach in time!
Over two months from moving and we still don't have working internet because of the stupid system where the company that provides your internet (service) is not the company that provides your internet (infrastructure) so neither of them can ever actually fix a problem, just bat you back and forth...
