While setting up programs on my new OS install, I also installed the Monero wallet again and found that Monero apparently hit 600 USD recently? 😳 Considering the wallet still holds some, it's a welcome surprise, but what the hell is going on there?

I continue to be impressed and surprised by my new Linux install. Being able to invert scroll direction per device is incredibly nice for example (and something that Windows and macOS struggle with). [..]

The thing that surprised me the most however, is the fact that it seems to remember my screen layout and settings correctly when plugging and unplugging monitors. My old Linux install would always freat the fuck out when any monitor changed, but KDE is handling it exactly as well as Windows!

Now that I've been using it for a bit I found some annoying problems. The main one is that distrobox seems to be absolutely incapable of running on startup and all the workarounds I've tried also don't work :/ There has to be a way to do it, but it's anything but straightforward at least.

I'm seriously impressed by how well Distrobox works 😳 I set up a Ubuntu 24 distobox to install Protonmail Bridge and it just worked absolutely perfectly, including support for the tray icon. Gotta say, I did not expect it to work _this_ well.

Started playing The Big Walk with the VR mod and it's absolutely incredible. I've not played the game normally at all yet, but now that I played it in VR I wonder why it wasn't made with VR support from the get-go.

Alright, today is the day! After 14 years on Linux Mint I'm going to try to switch to Aurora Linux. Let's see how this goes... This is going to be a thread over the course of a day with all the good and the bad.

I'm not done setting up everything yet, but I think I can easily install other missing apps as I need them. One big thing that's still missing is a Windows VM to run some Windows-only software, but I'm mostly done and happy. This whole adventure was a lot less frustrating than I feared.

I started setting up some stuff for work and getting DBeaver to access a homebrew installed version of mariadb to run a restore on a MySQL server running inside a docker container was some fuckass bullshit. I guess it's not all sunshine and rainbows in immutable land...

Couldn't get it to run for now, but I got Thunderbird, Discord, VSCode and a bunch of other things setup and working well. Having homebrew to install tools instead of juggling apt packages is also a nice change of pace.

One thing I can say however, is that the OS feels very snappy. Especially browsing though my SMB share to restore things from the backup. And KDE is just very nice in general. A bunch of keyboard shortcuts I never expected to be there _just work_ for example.

Enabling Devmode seems to have removed 1Password again? But after re-layering it, everything seems good now. Next up: Installing InSync to get my Google Drive files back. It will also have to go into a distrobox, so that's another new thing.

Also I wanted to change from bash to zsh as my default but chsh doesn't exist and putting the entry in /etc/passwd seems to be ignored, great...

Okay, 1Password actually worked after a restart (like rpm-ostree said), but getting the browser extension to talk to the app across the Flatpak boundary seems to be a bit of a hassle. Haven't gotten it to work yet.

The first thing I notice while still in the live image: Terminal middle click paste doesn't work and even after googling around, I can't seem to get it enabled. Whatever, that's a task for later.

Install was complete and the first order of business is installing 1Password to get access to all my passwords. Installing requires layering bc the browser extension can't communicate with it otherwise. I installed it with rpm-ostree and it doesn't launch, great...

I'm heavily considering switching jobs because of a planned new focus on mainly vibecoded software and just had a very successful interview with a potential new employer 🥳

What the fuck is this pricing, lol. Either buy 4 for 2.99€ or 9 for 6.79€, which is 5ct more expensive in total?? And then they call it "Maxi Pack" as if you're saving money by buying the larger size.

I just went partying in Spain for the first time today and learned that they do not give a shit about their hearing 😳 I didn't even know my watch could show 110 dB of volume, but in this one club, several drops went up to that level. Even with earplugs it's loud as shit, wtf :D

The fact that I can fly from Germany to Spain without ever even showing an ID card will never not be amazing to me

I got an Outer Wilds merch mug today, and look at what it says on the bottom! I wish all merch mugs were like this

One thing I always forget about the Steam Frame is the fact that the controllers have a lot more buttons than other VR controllers. For something like VRC that opens up pretty exciting possibilities of having way more functionality bound directly to buttons or making OSC powered menu systems.

Would be cool for example to skip having to navigate the Expressions Menu to toggle a prop when I can just use a DPad button for an instant toggle. Or using the L1/R1 buttons to instantly switch the hand of a prop you're holding.

This is basically the idea I had - a silent disco VRChat world. You can switch between three channels instantly (audio and video is multiplexed into a single stream), the visuals always adjust to what you're listening to and you can also see what channel other people are listening to.

I have a new idea for a VRC world project, but need some flight cases for decoration. Does anyone where to find some good models (paid or free)? I've googled around a bit and didn't really find anything that looked usable.

I have no idea if this would actually be fun or even viable with real DJs playing, but I _think_ it could be an interesting one-time novelty event at least?

I just learned that Britney Spears - Toxic came out in 2003 and is therefore older than some people I know from VRChat

AI coding 🙃 (most of this is actually an auto-generated OpenAPI client, but I still found it funny)

I'm sure this was asked before, but what's the track that plays on the VRChat EDM loading screen called?

I went back to making something in OpenSCAD after 4 years and I have to say, for generative designs, it still beats Fusion360 or Blender by a wide margin. It's really amazing what you can do with like 30 lines of code. (I suppose I could've also used geo nodes but I'm not as comfortable with them).

Why did it take VRChat patchnotes for me to learn that the Calibration Mirror is a feature? I always placed a personal mirror manually when recalibrating. Come to think of it, I have seen the option before, but never understood what it does, since you can use any mirror for calibration.
