Also, in Indiana, voting in the primary is how you earn the right to run for office under that party. There is no registration: whatever party you voted in the last two primaries is who you can run as. If you don’t, it’s the discretion of your local party chair. Don’t give them that power over you.
I really do think you should vote. Your actual vote is secret, but the fact that you voted is not. Being a regular voter means campaigns will try to win you over. The more trans people are regular voters the more likely it is that candidates will worry about needing to win our votes.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...
If you must use TV for news, PBS Newshour is the best that you can do there. Cable news is maybe only useful during something live, and only if they’re not speaking but carrying someone else live. For that, you have C-SPAN.
Political media is the only topic other than “small dogs with names inspired by Superman” that I feel like I can honestly refer to myself as an “expert,” and I implore you to stop watching cable news. It doesn’t inform you. TV news is one of the worst ways possible to get the news.

If you want to actually be confident that your platform is your own, post exactly 3 things on centralized social media: 1. Headline 2. Website 3. atproto handle (with same domain as your website) Content goes on 2 & 3. It isn’t that you *must* leave those platforms, but you shouldn’t count on them.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.
Republican US Rep Brian Fitzgerald tweets that he will introduce a bill to block purchases of Russian oil. Don Bacon (R-Neb) tweets that he will co-sponsor. Obviously this won’t happen during campaigning recess (and Trump could veto anyway) but interesting push-back on Trump.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
All of this, and also to add: Hazing is how cults filter out whistleblowers. The people that would put a stop to future bad behavior, or even just report it, don’t put up with being hazed.
Another thing about fraternities is that the hazing rituals where slightly older young men would physically, mentally emotionally and sometimes even sexually abuse slightly younger young men have always disturbed and upset me greatly. And it’s really telling that I’ve seen men defend those too

saying you’re using AI to get out of just remembering this stuff is not a good way to sell it imo like i get that yall think of the working class as an anonymous pile of lumpy brawling illiterates but few of em are as eager to convert to brainlessness as you think they are
At the risk of adopting a hateful trope, “How do you define a journalist?” Or “Political balance”? “The board will be composed only of journalists, with no executives or shareholders allowed to join, the person said, adding that the board will be required to have political balance.”

I keep telling people about how the Christian "Left Behind" books, literal fantasies about the apocalypse, were super, super popular in the late 90s/ early 2000s. I used to read them. Major disasters, while terrible, were also framed by evangelical churches as titillating...sexy almost.
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

This is me in the town I grew up in. Around 50 of us showed up for a rally that was planned in less than 48 hours after ICE came to down & started arresting people at work. This place is rural Indiana & heavily Republican. We knew we weren’t changing policy yesterday. tribtown.com/2026/09/05/d...
We were there to let the people targeted by ICE know that some of us love them. We see our own story of immigration & persecution in them. We want their families to have the same opportunities we have. Shout out to @flagsforgood.com for hooking me up with that flag just hours earlier!

How do we choose the leaders after violence? Violent revolutions have a tendency to have a worse government after. Reminder: the American Revolution started with creating the new form of government first. The Revolutionary War was after the first Continental Congress. You still need politics.
