Preparedness has to be driven nationally but much of it delivered locally. Today I asked the Minister how he is ensuring Local Resilience Forums are properly funded and whether he can guarantee every part of the UK has a local resilience plan.

A fantastic call for moves towards a Buy the Supply fund from NEF! They point out it is often cheaper and faster than building homes from scratch and combined with rent controls could really help return council housing to more of those who need it. neweconomics.org/2026/10/the-...

I very much want to be wrong, but I think this outbreak is going to get much, much worse. Attacks on healthcare workers, active conflict zone, porous borders, sub-optimal surveillance. A very bad combination. apnews.com/article/ebol...

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

Green MPs have tabled a parliamentary motion calling on the government to make essentials affordable, tax extreme wealth and profits, and invest in long-term climate resilience.

As the cost-of-living crisis pushes households to the brink and climate breakdown places further stress on public services, only the Green Party are pushing for genuine action at the Budget this week.

The government didn’t just approve Jackdaw, they also reiterated their support for so-called tiebacks - a dodge to allow yet more new drilling without new licenses. This deserves almost as much scrutiny as Jackdaw and has got barely any of it, so I raised it in the Chamber.

The Covid Inquiry’s Module 6 report is devastating. Its central conclusion: adult social care was treated as “something of an afterthought”, while “protecting the NHS” sometimes came at the expense of people receiving and providing care. 1/10

Dr Jackie Turvey Tait reposted

This is damning. So much could could have been done at the time, with what was known about COVID, and with what what resources we had. It’s hard not to read callous neglect into these findings. And that intentional neglect was layered with lies - like the “protective ring” - which did not exist.

Kit Yates@kityates.bsky.social

The Inquiry’s overarching judgement is that fragmented responsibility, ignored warnings, poor data and inadequate planning created conditions in which Covid could spread “like wildfire”. Social care’s neglect was longstanding. During the pandemic, its consequences became catastrophic.
