The latest move comes as even plenty of local governments, under pressure due to ICE's frequent use of local poloce surveillance networks, are actually canceling contracts with the same creepy companies used here, like Flock. But not Asheville city hall. #avlnews #avlgov

npr.orgWhy some cities are ditching their Flock license plate readersCities around the country are debating whether to keep their automatic license plate readers. Concerns about privacy and federal immigration agents accessing local data are driving these debates.

If a therapist recommending conversion therapy for lgbtq youth is “free speech” then a doctor recommending you to start smoking must be free speech too right?! Or does the US just keep devaluing therapists as basically harmless.

Trans youth suicide went way up when uk restrictions went into place. They covered it up. So much for the spurious claim that they are “protecting children”

@rikiwilchins.bsky.social 2026 Feb 9: Good Law Project's Freedom of Information requests find spike in trans kid's suicide following NHS stopping GAC: from just 9 for 2019 thru 2020 to 32 for 2021 thru 2022-- an increase of 256%. New — I wrote about ChongLy Scott Thao, the elderly Hmong American wrongly arrested and forced out of his home by ICE in his underwear during the punishing Minnesota winter, what witnesses saw, and DHS's racist claim that he fit the description of another Asian man they were looking for. My story:

thehandbasket.coBehind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his homeDHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

Guardian writers campaigned against puberty-blockers because they were prescribed "off label". Now the Guardian is celebrating Ozempic, a drug being used off label for obesity. The difference...? Puberty-blockers have been used for trans kids for 30+ years, Ozempic for obesity only for 4 years.

so to be clear, Microsoft is using a tool it's embedded into its operating system and many (all?) of its softwares to promote conversion therapy against trans kids, disguised to fool their parents into thinking it isn't purely anti-transition

Since the release of the HHS report, both Copilot and ChatGPT have begun to reference "gender exploratory therapy" as a "first line approach" for gender dysphoria by elevating the Therapy First website to the top of the SEO food chain.

The story of LGBT rights is a story of advances followed by setbacks followed by media with no skin in the game saying, "It's because you were too loud/asked for too much/moved too fast/got too big for your britches/didn't make your case." That never changes--but happily it's never the last word.

Reminder: Elon Musk, whose Starship just blew up on the test stand (with extra fuel tanks piled beside it), was allowed for THIRTY YEARS to lie about his training in science. He started lying in 1995, got trapped in the lie - and suffered no consequences. But physics itself has consequences. 1/

Seeing a lot of confusion about the budget's provisions on trans care--it would strip Medicaid funds for trans care (which is awful enough) but it would NOT prohibit private insurers from providing coverage for trans care. It actually does something far more narrow and wonkier

Gillian Branstetter@gbbranstetter.bsky.social

Under the ACA, plans sold on the individual or small-group Marketplaces have to provide coverage for certain treatments called Essential Health Benefits (EHB). Only a few treatments (like abortion) are prohibited from coverage as an EHB by HHS--but insurers are not banned from covering it altogether

The public attacks on “gender ideology” have always been part of a coordinated strategy to erase trans people, deny abortion, end marriage equality, limit sex education, etc. There’s no “compromise” with such politics. We will only ensure our freedoms by rejecting authoritarianism, unapologetically.

1. Great news. Yesterday, Planned Parenthood of Arizona restarted gender affirming care for transgender adults. This decision comes after widespread public outcry at a "pause," which was seen as overcompliance with Trump threats. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism.

I have really good news to announce to everyone. Because of our reporting and many readers contacting Planned Parenthood of Arizona, the organization will NOT over comply with Trump, and is restarting its trans adult care. Good work everyone.
