This is exactly the kind of narrative courtesy that allowed TERFs to get their foot in the door in the 2010s. It is foolish in the extreme to continue to adopt that stance in the 2020s.

Saying that Sex Matters have “taken an interest on issues around trans identities” and so that means they have “expertise on this area” is genuinely one of the stupidest, and most dangerous, takes you could make. Bigots obsessing over their bigotries does not make them experts. They hold no value.

If you're trans, you can't work in any public facing job currently without the risk of one of a couple of dozen GCs finding out about you and campaigning for you to be sacked for "doing your fetish in public" All enabled by Rowling's funding. Then they trot out "wHaT rIgHtS dOn'T yOu HaVe???"

I still just find the idea that nonbinary people are somehow not materially oppressed like the real transsexuals are very funny. Like do you really think people with they/them pronouns on their CVs have an equal opportunity at employment? Lmao.

For an organisation so desperate to save money, the BBC seems to have an unusually large visual effects budget to spend on covering or removing queer flags and slogans.

Viscerally upset by the Beth Upton stuff. They won't be satisfied until they have hounded a woman – who the tribunal explicitly found had done nothing wrong – to her death. Btw the "incident" in Australia is that a patient worried she *might* be forced to be treated by her. She of course wasn't.

i know it's not the done thing and I'm supposed to pretend be hopeful but i can't. i have zero hope for trans people in the UK, things are already terrible and they just keep getting worse. there is no end in sight. it'll take decades to get back to where we were. people are dead. lives are ruined.

You have to laugh at the sheer insanity of Turning Point UK being found to be organising literal contract killings and paid agitation at protests up and down the country and it barely even raises a flicker across the press. If that isn't 'terrorism' on some level I don't really know what is

I think a huge reason Elon Musk is so virulently transphobic is not simply that his daughter transitioned & went no contact, but that he did everything he could to make sure all his kids were boys b/c he hates women, & one of those children deliberately & publicly embracing being female enrages him.

please stop replying to game devs saying things like "well look on the bright side those laid off devs can start their own indie studios now" because eventually one of us is going to snap and "WITH WHAT FUCKING MONEY" would be a shitty last thing to hear before you die

The BioWare news isn’t necessarily surprising, neither is the cancellation of the new Mass Effect, but it does suck ass. That original Mass Effect trilogy was magical and it’s a shame to see such a legacy end in such a whimper. Hope everyone laid off can get new opportunities soon

priamble.bsky.social reposted

it cannot actually be ignored or danced around that the closure of BioWare came so soon after the Saudi and Jared Kushner acquisition of EA. they absolutely did take the studio making EA’s broadly queerest games out back and shoot it old yeller style. do not let yourself or colleagues ignore that

priamble.bsky.social reposted

I feel obliged to once again reiterate that lay offs and closures are not a reaction to the economy, but a failure of leadership. Each wave of closures and layoffs should be looked upon as a consequence of greed and incompetence. If you can't keep your people employed, you are bad at your job.

Bioware made some of the most beloved stories and worlds in games and had such an impact on RPG that they essentially reshaped public perception of it and what it could be It also, not always successfully but always out of good intentions, was one of the biggest source of AAA queer stories in games

Yeah the problem is that they have the damn prime minister promoting it on main. Give it to literally anyone else. It feels insulting to see burnham pop up on my tiktok being charming on a train about people playing music after a vid of someone sharing the story of a trans woman dying of nhs neglect

The NHS has issued new guidance on same sex spaces for patients and staff. This guidance is based on the EHRC code of practice which we believe is exclusionary of trans and non-binary people. We continue to hold serious concerns about the implications of the guidance, and how it will be implemented.

The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (@bashhuk.bsky.social) and British HIV Association (BHIVA) are deeply concerned about the impact of this guidance on transgender and non-binary people, incl the risk of increased stigma, distress and barriers to accessing healthcare. Our statement:

This, every day. The changes made by Labour/EHRC are precisely that - changes - and their attempts to lie about this cannot be accepted. Alongside our trans histories of struggle and discrimination are other histories of acceptance and success. We can - and will - demand more of the latter.

We must not allow anyone to forget the history of trans people living peacefully in the world alongside others.

It's always a "shock" to narcissistic people. I guarantee they've been told very clearly and repeatedly exactly what the problem is, likely for years, but their reaction will still be "I was blindsided! This came out of nowhere!"

The Tory leader tried to make a councillor out of a Neo Nazi criminal who had literally been *sent to prison for racist hounding of a Jewish MP*. When she couldn’t do that, she made him an antiracism advisor. That was, what, two months ago.a

I was talking to my therapist about the BBC transphobia and the NHS transphobia and she pointed out a great fact which is that of course this feels deeply destabilising and hurtful cause the NHS and BBC are so intertwined with what makes Britain Britain

The question "Is this condition overdiagnosed" is actually asking "Have we found an exceptional case of a medical issue where healthcare is too easy to get?" and the answer to that is always no. There has never, at any point, been a situation where it was too easy to get healthcare.

Reminder that the official government position is that female prisoners are perfectly safe incarcerated alongside West, who raped, tortured and murdered at least ten women, but would be put intolerable danger if a trans woman shoplifter or drug dealer joined them.

It’s helpful to have an actual Labour MP saying right out that it’s not what transgender people do or say that is the problem: it’s their presence that she objects to, their existence. Yes, this is what it always was, and these people just keep winding each other up and up to ever more extreme views

Tonia’s take is quite amazing in just how blatant it is. The logic is literally “we will be bigoted to you so you should be kept away from me cause my bigotry is normal and actually its quite unpleasant for me to have to feel my bigotry by your presence”

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

It would IMO be better if MPs had not utterly deranged their own brains on Twitter dot com, wildly radicalising themselves and each other.
