Has anyone else had that moment where you realise the book that you're reading used to be fanfic and it kills your ability to enjoy the book because it's painfully clear that the author didn't understand the characters they were writing before they did the find-and-replace on the names?

It must be the Friday before a big game release because the "difficulty settings aren't accessibility" crowd are out again. Every year without failure because a bunch of whiny assholes can't handle the fact that disabled people have hobbies.

I've just been caught up on the casting news for season 2 of Heated Rivalry and I'm sat here like "Really? Justice Smith was the fattest actor you could find to play the one canonically fat character in the books? There's not one fat actor that auditioned that made you go 'that's the guy'?"

Sometimes you read something and you can tell exactly what the writer was taught in school. Sponsored by "Avoid word repetition. If you see it more than six times on a page, change some of them" and the way it turns into "right click > thesaurus > synonyms" without identifying the underlying issue

It's taught as though the word choice itself is the issue and that just replacing the word will fix it, when the reality is that it depends on so many other things. What type of word is being repeated? Is it being repeated deliberately? Is the writer even aware that they've repeated the word?

I wish schools would do better job at this. If you insist on creative writing assignments, actually teach students how to write, rather than teach them how to pick "better" words. And that starts with teaching people how to read and think about what they're reading without sucking the joy out of it

Seriously, Canada... I love you, you're great, but you were my third choice here (if Team GB or Team Ireland had qualified for the hockey, I would have been cheering for your demise). You cannot stress me out like that

A week after watching it, I'm still sat here thinking "They never should have cast Leo Woodall in the last Bridget Jones film because he looks like who you'd cast as Renee Zellweger's 20-something son"

Talamasca had better get a lot gayer than it currently is. It's starting to feel like all of the queer stuff is in Interview With the Vampire and is being segregated from the rest of the franchise

It's a shame the cat got eaten by the evil pool, but it was kinda inevitable when the family left their cat outside unsupervised overnight. That cat deserved better owners that wouldn't let it get eaten by the evil pool #NightSwim

After the shitshow that was Gladiator 2, I noped out of Knock at the Cabin after 10 minutes because that "I'm a child molester and my buddies are gonna hate crime your family tomorrow" vibe was not it. So now onto Night Swim, which seems to be entirely "your pool wants to eat you"

Other questions include: What is that on Peter Mensah's head? Did anyone look at how these fights looked on screen? What is that make-up meant to be? Seriously, what the fuck is that on Peter Mensah's head? Why does literally not one accent in this film make sense? Was the CG just not finished?
