Wait but wouldn't "they're demons" be a much more theologically orthodox answer than "they're alien spaceships"?

Raffi Melkonian@rmfifthcircuit.bsky.social

I don’t believe in demons or exorcists, but I was curious what people who do believe in demons and exorcists think requires firing your exorcist. It turns out it was videos about how UFOs are likely demons.

No, “Robert”. Building infill housing is BAD for the environment because it helps HUMANS and all humans (except me and my family) are BAD for the environment. The goal should be to reduce the human population to ZERO (not counting me and my family) to save the orcas. Then we don’t NEED any housing!

Robert Cruickshank@robertcruickshank.com

This is some truly appalling NIMBY nonsense. Building infill housing is *good* for the environment. It *protects* birds and orcas and salmon. It *saves* forests and trees. The IPCC and Sierra Club have both recognized that infill housing is essential to protect the environment and tackle climate.

Oh my god. This is incredible.

absolutely wild scoop by my @indyweek.bsky.social colleague @ccourtneybohl.bsky.social on the Town of Cary’s $330k spend on “documentary-style videos about town projects and culture”—including a mini doc about the leadup to a staff flash dance—for internal use.

I hate when the question bakes in false premises. I disagree with the statement empirically because the evidence shows most criminals are not forward-looking enough to fear long sentences when criming, so they're ineffective for deterrence. But great for preventing crime by incapacitation!

River_Tam@rivertam.bsky.social

Concerning. Looking into it!

(the false premise is evident in the end of the "explanation" where it implies deterrence is the main, or at least a necessary, mechanism by which long sentences would deliver safety gains.)

Anyway the funny thing is when I flip from answering the questions literally to taking my best guess at the policy proposals the authors think the beliefs are equivalent to endorsing, I flip from being Ultimate Normie Clintonite US Democrat, to UK/commonwealth Tory (pre-Brexit thank God) 🤗

Lol yep, case closed. This dude did not fire, and whoever got hit by a bullet was hit by friendly fire. The administration just lies so reflexively! There isn't even a reason to lie about this! He was obviously on an assassination mission sprinting in with guns. Why claim he fired? wapo.st/4tQWvNW

wapo.stVideo shows moment Secret Service officer fired at correspondents’ dinner suspectSurveillance footage reviewed by The Post provides the clearest picture yet of the seconds after the alleged gunman bolted through a checkpoint inside the hotel.

The embarrassments for USSS here are that: 1. Only like 1 of 7 people on duty here was even facing the approach to the checkpoint, and 2. That that one guy stepped backward out of the Naruto-running intruder's path. Shooting is understandable in this instance! Friendly fire is understandable!

Obviously he could have used better judgment firing like that but it was a split-second decision. Why rush to print a lie in the charging documents?

Yeah all three women out of the cabinet are horrendous and deserved to be impeached, but only Noem was even in the same ballpark of evil as RFK Jr. and Hegseth.

She is awful and should be fired but man that is three women out of the Cabinet and not a single guy

Finally, a Sound Transit station naming scheme that gives the proper respect due to the dozens of downtowns and city centers served by Link light rail's 2 lines. I can't shake the feeling they forgot one but... Nah must be my imagination. I think that's all of them.

Derek of WayfindDesigns@dmholmer.wayfinddesigns.com

With wayfinding on the top of everyone's mind, I decided to submit my solution to the problem. With a slight rebrand and some station name tweaks, we can create a system that is both legible and easy to navigate! I present DT, Downtown Transit!

Funny thing is how this goes for camper trailers too. We tow a 1967 canned ham that comfortably fits my family of 4 to sleep (full futon, drop down dinette, bunk bed) and cook (3-burner gas stove, ice chest, hand pumped sink) with tons of storage: 2000 pounds. New campers: 6-7000 pounds.

Extremely cringe normie complaint post but: seriously who is buying groceries at these prices? This has gotten insane.

American transit agencies often try to insist their passengers are too incompetent or criminal for bog-staneard Proof of Payment / fare validation to work here, but the more likely reason is that their own fare enforcement and equipment setup are not great.

Jason Rabinowitz@airlineflyer.net

I was actually on this bus yesterday! I got off before the fare inspection thankfully. A regular non-articulated bus was operating on the M23-SBS and was crush loaded going east at 10th Ave (!). The rear door OMNY wasn’t configured for SBS operation and said “ENTER FRONT DOOR”

They got my ass. I actually literally said that while playing with my kids at Whale Tail park this afternoon.

It also makes Seattle look crowded and overserved with Link lines and stops, when in fact we have (and plan) to have paltry inadequate coverage of Seattle's urban fabric while we overserve a chain of fenced-off golf course corners and parking lots where ~0 people will board after 9am.

Wow. That's less than one dollar per hour spent riding transit in comfort. (I mapped this because I didn't understand the significance at first, my impression was those are two LA-adjacent cities so they'd be like 20 minutes apart, but no: 3 hours for $1.75).

bottomfishers for Nithya Raman@cahsrslut.bsky.social

LA Metro faremoggs all other American transit systems. You can go from Pomona to Long Beach for just 1.75, insane

This is a heart-wrenching, infuriating read. The 911 dispatcher rebuffed this dying old woman repeatedly. He sounds like Ben Stiller's sadistic nurse in Happy Gilmore: "We're not going to play that game", he replied to her mentioning congestive heart failure. She died near her bed within a day.

If Trump has the authority to unilaterally demolish parts of the White House, is there anything to stop him demolishing the entire thing in 2028 if he loses the election? The most likely thing to stop him would be his hope for another coup on 1/6/29.
