This story went up late on Friday and got less attention than it otherwise might have done. A sentencing hearing on Friday was told three participants in the Tory election-betting scandal - dismissed at the time as "a flutter" - would have made nearly £50,000 if undetected www.ft.com/content/510e...

Healey is wrong to claim that Heathrow extension will boost GDP. That's false. it simply diverts resources from more useful and sustainable projects, with huge disruption along the way. It only serves the interests of Heathrow's owners.

Netanyahu is a serial and vicious war criminal. The settlers committing severe violence against Palestinians and stealing their lands are openly supported by him. Powerful BBC TV News coverage this evening

It's increasingly stupid and wrong for the government to label pro-Palestinian activists and supporters as 'terrorists'. The ordinary criminal law is quite strong enough to deal with any serious criminal activity, where appropriate.

Pretty extraordinary for the Jewish Chronicle to run an op ed & news story about Nigel Farage warning of antisemitism in the Greens without mentioning that he is the only serving major party leader to have been criticised by Jewish groups for using tropes linked to antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Reminder that the EU had no compunction about banning Russia Today. If anything, Musk’s behaviour is more egregious - directly assisting a foreign enemy's military attack. And this is on top of his support for race riots, Nazis and CSAM! By any measure, a threat to national security.

Steve Peers@stevepeers.bsky.social

It's legitimate for the EU, the UK, Canada and others to support their Ukrainian ally. If Musk is going to (in effect) assist Putin's invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine's allies should sanction Starlink, X and Tesla. At the very least, governments (and people) should stop using his fucking site already.

Any solution to the crown court backlog that relies on pumping thousands more cases into magistrates' courts is bound to fail.

Magistrates’ courts are already overwhelmed and facing a spiralling backlog — one growing much, much faster than in the crown court. Avg wait for a trial in mags’ has gone up ~25% in the last year. Half of trials are waiting 6 months + to start — longer than during the pandemic!
