In battleground Senate races, almost 13% of Hispanic and 11% of AAPI early voters didn't vote at all. Compare that to 3% of white early voters. Why does that matter? In early vote analysis you have to consider if these voters would have just voted anyhow...

bluntly this is also what destroyed LBJ and led to the nixon landslide, yes vietnam also mattered and was probably #1, but the white working class was infuriated that black folks would also benefit from the great society programs

David S. Bernstein @dbernstein.bsky.social

You really need to work hard to be the most obsequious member of Trump’s cabinet — by, for instance, eating lunch at Cheesecake Factory and alerting Fox Business, so they can interview you in defense of Obama’s joke about the White House decor. Well done Secretary Bessent! Your move, Doug Burgum!

32% of eligible US voters chose Trump in 2024, yet it was presented in the American media as an amazing landslide. Lula's reelection was significantly bigger, but it will be presented as eking out a win.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

People still talk about the foreign policy of the Trump administration as if (a) it's designed to advance US national interests, rather than private ones and (b) there's a reasonable expectation of competence and coherence. Neither of these things is correct.

The silly take is just that people aren’t clocking the fact that the joke works because “Cheese-cake-factory” is just an extremely fun combination of words. Substitute any other restaurant name—it is wayyyyyyyyy less fun!

What’s a bit silly is that folks in the center and on the left (not Melissa) then start forensically analyzing the Obama dig to see if it followed Queensbury Rules, and whether WWC folks might get their feelings hurt and is that smart, fellow liberals? You don’t have to do this!

A hit dog will holler. Obama’s dig at Trump was effective, both as specific rhetoric and in the context of a broader rally speech to a crowd that highlighted all the differences between Barack Obama as a speaker and Donald Trump as a speaker. Of course GOP partisans would yelp and sputter!
