Trying to get the flower part names right for the alt text also led me to stumble upon this lovely little webpage: arboretum.harvard.edu/stories/magn... They do indeed 😌

atproto linkedin replacement when?
I hate LinkedIn with a burning passion and especially hate that it’s pushed as something you *have* to have for professional networking. I have unsubscribed from ALL of their engagement bait emails, but every few months they sneak me back onto some list to see if they can trick me into engaging 😡

ugh I've have to re-build @frequency.app's spaces appview to have a confidential client oauth flow. i misunderstood what the service auth tokens could do and i need the appview to be able to sync member spaces without having a user logged into the client and constantly refreshing keys every ~10 mins
i went to see the social reckoning movie yesterday. it was a small theater outside of downtown on a cloudy afternoon. i thought with all the headlines of it 'bombing' opening weekend, the theater would be empty, but there were still >50 people watching with me. most of them were middle aged or older
it just renewed my motivation for building @frequency.app. fb, instagram - they are holding our friends and family hostage and manipulating their reality every day, and they don't care about the cost to us. we need to have good alternatives that show people it doesn't have to be that way.

it was a good follow-up to original movie, in typical aaron sorkin style. i'm glad that story got told, and they did a good job explaining the technical details in understandable terms. they kept the numbers simple (64% of people who joined extremist groups did so after the algorithm suggested them)
back in my day these were separate stations! get off my lawn! etc. etc. 😆
the coffee shop I'm working from this morning is clearly playing a 90s radio station, but it's a strange mix of of all of the genres together.. some numetal then a faith hill song followed by the smashing pumpkins. as someone who lived through the 90s this is so strange 😐

i love the renewed focus on "what if this, but shaped around people" while legacy platforms are doubling down on "what if even more engagement" thru things as wild as *alternate versions of the same video* (srsly wat) further pushing a flattening of online creative. @jesseplusplus.com has been...

I also give a sneak peek of what I've been putting together for the next version of @frequency.app that I'm building on top of the new atproto spaces! I'm always nervous to share things before they're done, but lmk what you think 🫣

I know I'm not the first person to be confused by this, but why don't my standard.site posts just show up when I try a different atproto blogging platform? I am poking around on @pckt.blog and expected my existing posts that I made on leaflet to *just appear*. Any progress on imports @brookie.blog?
Ok one positive thing about our unusually muggy weather for the last 2-3 months is that my favorite tree, the jacaranda, hung onto its blooms for longer than usual. Instead of dropping them all in mid-July like they usually do, we’ve gotten to enjoy them through the end of September
The ants have been ridiculously bad in Southern California this year with the unusually warm and humid weather. The ones invading my house are just normal black ants, but these tree ones were biters!

I hate how targeted new parents are. Since I'm a huge privacy weirdo, I blocked as much tracking as possible. It mostly worked, but the funny thing is that it just pushed the targeting to my partner - he's the one getting the ads for padded helmets to protect our baby's head while she crawls 🙄

I'm going to "Atproto Spaces Office Hours".
This is the only article I’ve seen so far mentioning that all of the recent incidents of AI hacking from the big firms were CTF exercises run by the *same* AI cybersecurity firm who messed up the sandbox and allowed internet access. I wish the headlines told that story. www.cnbc.com/2026/09/18/g...
I know the #permissioned-data spaces-alpha is indeed an alpha and much will change, but have there been DNS changes today that removed the wildcard for handle.spaces-alpha.bsky.network? I can't resolve my test account's handle anywhere except the PDS login screen today. cc @dholms.at
