I appreciate that people want a new Mass Effect, but the future where fans advocate for the work itself and not the people who make it is the one the vultures at EA want. If you'll take it however you get it, they can keep treating people who make what you love as expendable.

kotaku.comWhat Does It Even Mean To ‘Save’ Mass Effect? - KotakuThousands of fans are rallying around a campaign to save the series after BioWare's shutdown, but what does that look like?

Didn’t think this was a hot take but I don’t think BioWare made a game even remotely bad enough to “justify” it being shut down “BioWare was struggling for years,” yeah, and even its worst games weren’t as bad as some garbage that’s let slide and it’s fucking weird to imply the team “deserved” this.

For @gamespot.com, I revisited BioWare's history of queer representation and how it always strove to depict LGBTQ characters and stories with nuance and respect. It wasn't always perfect, but gaming wouldn't be where it is today without Mass Effect or Dragon Age. www.gamespot.com/articles/bio...

Femshep tangoed with an Alien so the love and deep space girls could run

Chris Hepler@theotherhepler.bsky.social

Someone else today said that the BW retrospectives aren't really pointing out how much Femshep moved the ball forward. And the more I think about it, that one Garrus tango was a real "let's do something for all the Femshep players that sweeps them off their feet" moment. You don't see that much.

I’m currently working on probably the most personal piece I’ve ever written about ME and what it means to me that I am both excited and dreading to share but god. What a rough week.

Some Fortune's Weave from me other at @mothership.blog this morning! It's time to talk Dietrich and Fabio! I was surprised how much Dietrich's route was a kind of love story, one whose various peculiarities end up twisting and turning through questions of gender and expression.

dlvr.itXbox Was At An “All Time Low,” But Is Now Growing Again After Huge Cuts, CEO SaysDuring a town hall meeting today, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma spoke to staff to help reassure them following mass layoffs and studio closures related to the "reset" of the business. Windows Central reports that Sharma told staff that Xbox is "making the right decisions" and that "after an all time low, we've started to return to growth." She added that Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and World of Warcraft: Forever had "strong" starts. Sharma also told staff that Xbox's "Gen-10" platform--AKA Project Helix--will be, as rumored, a "family of devices" because "there is no one device that fits all." She said it's important for Xbox to have a "great console first," but there will also be options for players who are "on the go." Sharma went on to say that Microsoft will manufacture some of these devices, and others Microsoft will find partners for. "So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop. The operating system is starting to look really good. We're very excited about this," she said. Sharma didn't get into specifics about its next console or portable devices, but they're in the works amidst a very challenging time given the AI-fueled demand for memory and components. The global macroeconomic environment that has driven up oil prices has also rocked markets. Not only this, but in the US, the Federal Reserve recently raised rates, impacting borrowing costs with the effects trickling through various market categories, including gaming. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella praised Sharma for making such deep and extensive cuts at Xbox. This has so far included 1,600 layoffs in July, close to 300 more in September, and additional job losses to come. Microsoft also closed or divested of a number of studios, including Double Fine and Ninja Theory. Some theorized Sharma was streamlining Xbox to make it more attractive to a prospective buyer, but she recently insisted that Xbox is not for sale. A lot of people don't believe her, though, pointing back to her comments about how "the plan's the plan until it's not the plan." Beyond these moves, Sharma also oversaw a massive restructuring of the Xbox business that included Activision taking over the Halo series and Bethesda's remit expanding to also cover Obsidian.

Being frank, the more time passes from Geller's past being outed the more disgusted I am by the amount of people who shook their heads at the Cornell rapists just being made to write essays, only for those people to... immediately look for a way to excuse a rapist they like for writing good essays

“What do you want past abusers to do? Just die or do nothing forever?” Okay no, but cool hyperbole. I DO think that if you’ve done something like that and actually want to repent, a certain level of disclosure is necessary—especially when you position yourself as a feminist and work with women.

Refunding everyone and halting sales of another project will no doubt be a massive financial hit to LiC (an indie company!!), which makes it all the more admirable that they're doing this.

Lost In Cult@lostincult.co.uk

Rape culture is so prevalent that there are dudes in the comments of Lost in Cult’s IG post about severing ties with Geller stating that his OWN ADMISSION OF GUILT does not make it true. Sexual assault is SO “extremely serious” that even a man confessing he did it is not enough to establish guilt.

I think the lack of focus on the LSU rape case really highlights how often, even when Black women (and other non-white women) speak out, they're swept aside for a "better" story that gets more headlines. It's actually astounding how much it's been ignored, given the current conversations.

Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won't be on content moving forward and we won't be publicly airing this week's episode of The MinnMax Show. We're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.

Exactly. I am tired of seeing the “I always knew”/“their work was actually bad” takes whenever allegations emerge. Sometimes—often, actually!—bad people find their way into good spaces and make good things. And you’re not better than the folks who were taken advantage of for “always knowing”
