This is a very simple point that gets obscured, ignored or totally deleted in the debate around regulating energy construction, but it's extremely crucial. There is a new and phenomenal amount of gas trying to connect to the grid in the US kevinjkircher.com/what-energy-...
Not sure people realize how much gas-fired electricity generation US developers are planning to bring online. PJM's updated interconnection queue, for example, is 71% gas by capacity and 73% gas by likely energy generation. And this is *electricity*; the other 82% of final energy is ~all fossil.

The president is refusing to spend taxpayer money assisting Americans suffering from natural disasters solely because their states didn't vote for him. I know there are a thousand scandals at the moment, but this one deserves some more oxygen at every level.
Is this just business as usual in politics? No. Approval rates of federal disaster aid requests were about the same regardless of the state and did not vary much with the party of the President. This graph powerfully conveys the scale of the partisan discrimination now.
This is exactly why the damage being callously done to USA medicine, particularly to vaccines, by RFK Jr. and the incompetent administration are concerning to me and should be to all Americans.

2026 is on track to be the warmest (~35% chance) or second warmest (~63%) year on record, while 2027 is very likely (92% chance) to be the warmest on record on the back of a growing super El Niño event. For more, check out my new Carbon Brief State of the Climate Q2 update: www.carbonbrief.org/...

I don’t even believe the blame game uninformed Americans are directing towards Canada. It’s the fossil fuels, stupid! The humanity supporting conditions on this planet require non-emitting energy sources. Build nuclear!
All latitude bands, except in the Antarctic, observed above average temperatures last month. Departures were largest around the edge of the Arctic Circle. [Plot shows zonal-mean surface air temperature anomalies, where latitude = y-axis (not scaled by distance). Data from GISTEMPv4.]

The nominal strategic purpose of the U.S. Navy is to ensure global freedom of navigation to guarantee stable global trade. It has not only not done that, the United States instigated the conflict which undid it. This is known in foreign policy analysis as a “whoopsie doodles.”
Genuine question: is there any way to understand the "pause" on Operation Freedom besides an unambiguous defeat for the US navy? I am actually shocked at how badly the US is losing this war.
