Your jovial librarian guy. I'm a sucker for a good story, a good game, a good conversation, and a good cup of coffee. Adrift in social media, too old for new platforms. In my Dad Bod Era.
So I know the Spotify wrapped is soon. I did the mock festival app thing and my festival would essentially be Woodstock ‘99 with a scattering of grunge and classic rock as well. 😅 Oh well, as a white male who turned 19 that same July in 1999 I am of my generation.
I pity this guy. Reading to my kids is one of the single greatest joys and I get to do that every night!
I admit to playing an audiobook sometimes too. Once was tired and played The Wild Robot, but then my daughter asked me to reread that section the next night because she preferred daddy’s voice.
Welcome to October!
Been transitioning away from Spotify and got my spooky season metal playlist moved over to Tidal. Its an ongoing list.

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette?
We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS
Trying a new tactic to get my seven year excited for books and nighttime reading; letting her add the ones we read together to my Goodreads shelves. So now I have a “Picture Book” shelf and a “Chapter Book” one too. Tonight was a success, I guess we’ll see how long this lasts.

Good sports watching day for me so far:
Aston Villa defeat Tottenham 3-2, gets out of relegation zone.
Kentucky takes down Texas A&M, defeats too 10 team in the road.
Cubs up on Reds, hopefully can stay atop NL wildcard.

Once again, this was how the Economist characterized the American economy on Election Day in 2024.
We had a country on the brink of stunning success, but the Republicans knee-capped it with trade wars and real wars of their own choosing.
Mike Johnson: "We reminded voters of the disastrous effects of the years under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, what we inherited when we took this over last January. We had a country on the brink of ruin." 🙃
I don’t get the appeal of 7 Brew. I had it twice and was underwhelmed both times. Yet there is a location here in town that always seems to be backed out to the road. Either they’re very popular or very slow.
"are you published?"
'No.'
"what if you write all these books and you never sell a single one?"
'Still worth it.'
Most people will never understand.

AI companies: This technology we’re developing is dangerous and might destroy humanity and we don’t know how to stop it
Other people: So we should strictly regulate it, create legislative guard rails, and monitor its development?
AI companies: lol no the opposite of all that & give us more money
Isaac Newton famously wrote “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Academic progress is always iterative and builds on the work of others, and a key component of academic culture is proper citation & attribution. It would be a travesty to let LLMs destroy that.
Illiteracy rates are at an all time high. On purpose. The government wants you stupid. Read and be a rebel.

Still cracking up over the idea of a movie asking "What if Scrooge had a point," because A) he didn't and B) it's not as if we haven't already had the entire run of DuckTales to explore this question
Dispatches from the Bluegrass:
We’re a little sad in the Commonwealth this morning. Read a poem today, y’all.
Famed Kentucky writer, activist Wendell Berry dies at 92 www.wkyt.com/2026/09/01/f...
Let me add to the dog pile.
This story has no fucking gray area!
“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
Oh let’s hear character who says this out.
What next? A movie to explore the wonderful urban policies of Potterville? GTFO!
“Lost media” no longer! I finally got permission to upload “AL’S BRAIN,” an 11-minute educational 3-D film attraction which ran at the Orange County and Western Washington fairs, and hasn’t been seen publicly since 2009. You can watch the whole thing here: youtu.be/2xujU87ZHt4
It's so weird that Dolly Parton used her money to help ordinary people in a thousand different meaningful ways *and* lived an incredibly happy fulfilled life, almost like there's some sort of connection between the two.
Anyway, let me read about another AI CEO poisoning a town for shits and giggles
Dolly Parton gifted the world with her talent and heart.
From supporting children, donating to science, investing in Tennessee, and giving us songs to sing our hearts out to (looking at you, "9 to 5"), she made the world a better place.
Thank you, Dolly, for leading with love.
I work for a library department and let me tell you, Dolly is like a saint around here.
Like her, I’m also from Appalachia, and Eastern KY and East TN are practically neighbors. This one hurts more than I thought it would. She was one of a kind. RIP.

Man, click bait title are SO dumb!
It’ll be like “End of an Era for X-Men movies!” And the story is they cast Prof. X and we’ve moving on from Patrick Stewart.
Dude, James McAvoy was Prof X. for an entire film series and Patrick Stewart still has two MCU credits so far.

Gen X aged dad says: I don’t know, maybe the literacy rate is declining because kids don’t have a certain blue mutant badass quoting Shakespeare, Tennyson, and Emily Dickinson at them every Saturday morning.
In other news X-Men ‘97 Season 2 kicked ass.
As a kid that grew up in the ‘90s, I am reminded daily that the concept of “selling out” used to be a very big thing for bands to avoid and now is part of ancient history.
I feel like an issue that would connect well with voters would be doing anything at all to slow the current progression toward "absolutely everything now is a scam"

I may not have played a Mortal Kombat game since MK3 in 1995, but even 30 years on I love it. Mortal Kombat II was loads of fun. Great movie. Recommend a watch if you’ve got HBO Max.
