“Cyclists are often perceived as recklessly flaunting road laws. A new study challenges this perception. The study found only 5% of cyclists broke road rules while riding on bike infrastructure versus 66% of motorists who broke rules while driving.” Safe bike infrastructure fuels rule-following.
House of the rising sun by the animals. Or, for reasons I really can't explain, this. youtu.be/lk4fxsrJajY?...
name your fav cover song.
"privately flash alarms" good metaphoring there. Only really works if you mean the other kind of flash.
Top Democrats across the country are privately warning that they do not have enough cash in the November midterms to capitalize on what could be their party’s best political environment in over a decade and are at serious risk of leaving winnable seats on the table. https://cnn.it/4yaApZc
It's just galling for cyclists when you commute to work, and your constantly dodging pedestrians who step into the road without looking, cars will swipe you on purpose or by accident on a daily basis, the papers blame cyclists for getting killed by 'cars' and then the bsky chat is dangerous cycling.
100% opposite way of doing this. I call on god's judgement if I accidentally litter or something and nobody else is around to judge me.
does anybody else not really consider themselves a believer but, when it comes down to it, would be praying if the plane went down? (pub chat this evening was pretty strong)
Extremely french but good and right 'how' there.
🇫🇷 Tronchon on 🇪🇸 Vuelta win “To be honest, all today I was saying to myself the roads are super and I had a sore neck from looking up so much because the landscape was so beautiful. I was loving it all day and that’s how I won.” 📰 www.domestiquecycling.com/en/news/its-... 📸 Cor Vos
I am once again planning to ride too far on my bike for charity, this time from Vienna to Budapest, like some sort of Habsburg. Please donate if you can for a fantastic charity. gvwhl.com/XTUSR
Mine is somehow Bournemouth, despite us having an office there. The next is probably Telford. Though 50-50 if I've ever been to Wirral.
This is quite a good one for people to think about - what's the biggest UK city you haven't been to? Mine is Liverpool, but daughter likely going to University there so that will change.
Always sceptical of productivity as a measure. For eg. UK has reduced average working hour weeks far slower than Germany. Plus rules on what counts as being at work. And whether productivity is necessarily good.
Rejoining the EU is no panacea. My latest column for @financialtimes.com: Rather than attempting to reverse Brexit, Britain should focus on its domestic economic growth agenda as.ft.com/r/17ff4308-8...
When I studied sociology two separate lecturers started their courses with "we have the evidence, but unfortunately the economists/cops won" and it was gist of two others.
Being an academic in the UK is to be told that your research having a real-world impact is hugely important... only for you to wake up every day with the government announcing a new stupid policy clearly devoid of any fact-based evidence or underpinning research to justify it.
Keep seeing this take and isn't that just the collapse of the Tory party? They had so many PMs that an unpopular labour leader easily beat them. (Also that four is two leaders who were also ousted). There were 6 PMs in the 50s, averaged similar 2.5yrs per PM most of the post war era.
Opinion: The UK has had six prime ministers since May 2010. In contrast, it had just four in the 31 years after Margaret Thatcher took office. Now the number seems set to rise to seven. ft.trib.al/gT7z9cy
