So... Trump getting government gas stations to pump out cheap fuel is pure freedom and sushine Mamdani getting government bodegas and markets to sell healthy, affordable food is the prelude to the gulags

Wait, I though retail outlets owned by government was bad? Or at least, it was when Mamdani proposed opening grocery stores and the shrieking could be heard all up and down the East coast. *John Travolta going back and forth in confusion meme*

What a shithole article. They attributed high gas prices to shipping distribution in the Strait of Hormuz, without mentioning the war, and quotes a moron saying the orange rapist saved him money.

Who owns these gas stations? The article repeatedly states the white house “launched” them without any substantive explanation of what that means. Was this written by a child?

They are already operational stations. Most roads lead to Sunoco. The official Freedom Fuel list includes 25 sites, and several map to recurring retail identities: Gas N Go, Karco, Sunoco, United, Valero, BJ’s, and independents. Going to look into licesnsed operators next.

It’s a privately owned network of 25 gas stations that rebranded for the sake of this publicity stunt, and have temporarily lowered their price to $3.47 for the 47th President. There is no subsidy, the company is just taking a hit to their profit as a favor to the President so he can make a video

It’s kind of funny that the stations couldn’t bring themselves to ditch the ridiculous 9/10ths of a cent from the price for the promo. Sort of ruins the symbolism when most people gonna realize it’s really $3.48 per gallon.

Brain dead trump steals PetroCanada idea from Canada... a socialist ideology that dare I say EVEN Canada abandoned. Why this is almost communism dears, it's slippery slope fuckery at a minimum. I hope this doesn't lead to a coup or anything

I grew up in "communist" East Germany where the government set the gas price to 1.50/liter for the time I remember. Little did I know that Trump, hating communism as he says, would do the same in the USA.

PHILLY. DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR WAYS TO ABUSE POWER TO SAVE THEMSELVES IN THE SWING STATES. ALSO, THESE ARE PRIVATELY OWNED BUSINESSES AND THE WHITE HOUSE DIDN'T "LAUNCH" JACK SHIT. THEY WENT OUT SEARCHING FOR IN-KIND ELECTION YEAR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS.

Trump to aide: What industry have I not gone bankrupt in yet? Aide: Energy sector, I believe, sir. Trump: Let’s open some gas stations and sell fuel at a loss! Get Eric, this sounds like something for him.

Thanks for writing an entire article about gas prices, AND NOT EXPLORING HOW A PRIVATE BUSINESS IS BEING RAN BY THE WHITE HOUSE. Great job USA Today!

I hate being right. And to think I fought with some “leftist” anon pricks about this. bsky.app/profile/rich...

Next stop, Collectivization. All the anti-communists don’t realize they just elected the closest thing to Lenin and Stalin…by design. The oligarchs, their brain trust of lawyers and judicial activists saw how effective Leninist politics was to rally the masses. In doing so, they captured the State.

Nothing says free market like the federal government opening its own chain of gas stations. Next up federal grocery stores, federal coffee shops & a loyalty card you never asked for that’s spied on by Palantir, DHS & ICE. Strange definition of competition. Another trump step towards communism.

Wow, just imagine, if I happened to live near one of these 25 gas stations, I could save almost $5 on a tank of gas. And it would only be about $10 more expensive than gas was before this stupid war started. What a deal!

C'mon!! I'm betting the gas stations still have to pay the higher price for the gas! So either Trump is giving the gas stations taxpayer $$ to make up the difference or the gas stations are taking on a lower profit (or maybe losing $$)??

Does anyone have a good link to an explanation of how these gas stations are supposed to work? The USA Today article is shockingly light on detail

You stupid fuckers! This is communism! The market will be distorted, and shortages will occur. You, USA Today, will never lick the boot hard enough to be able to wear it.

Freedumb? With a 'b?' ⛽️ GAS, as of this moment, is still up a $1.33 PER GALLON than it was on February 28th, 2026 when Trump launched his illegal war in Iran. And then, Trump has the gall to say he loves the INFLATION!😤🤬 👉#ETTD 25th Amendment him, NOW!🧐

And that's a good thing? What in the ever loving hell is going on right now? That's an absurd price for fuel. Also isn't the whole MAGA thing that the government is bad, or is that only when reasonable solutions are presented but this batshit crazy gouging is fine?

This is so poorly reported. Who owns the gas station? The feds? Or are they partnering with private businesses who benefit from no bid contracts that subsidize their businesses in exchange for selling “cheap gas.” What will these stations look like in three months? Still selling cheap gas?

Hey USA Today, how about expanding on this article. Why not mention Delaware registration under trump company? Or rebranding? Or where the fuel comes from? Or private or corporate backers absorbing unsustainable losses?
