Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Just been to see #Digger. It’s marvellous. Like most films today it’s a bit too long. But performances, music, cinematography and above all the plot are superb. The soundscape alone is worth the price of admission.

A fascinating insight into our history. All but gone now.

Carrying on from yesterday's posts. During the Victorian era, Leeds became an important centre for the "fashion of mourning," shaped by strict social conventions surrounding bereavement. The demand for appropriate mourning dress encouraged the growth of specialist mourning warehouses

There's been a lot of debate recently about the influence of money in politics: whether that's dark money from abroad, or the undemocratic power of super-rich donors. Here's why First Past the Post makes the influence of big money in politics even more dangerous 👇

I'd like to wish Piddington Parish Council good luck in explaining why everyone in the village now has to pay the surcharge to use the NHS

I want the Prime Minister to look into a TV camera and say the RNLI are heroes, that we do not change policy by street violence in this country, and that he expects any criminal action to face the full force of the law. That's it. That's all he has to do.

Here we go Burnham, here's your chance to show some actual change from your predecessor. He locked up grannies for holding up cardboard signs. Are you going to lock up masked thugs that shut down the UK's busiest port?

Oh, one other thing to note about Middle Aged Racists Go Annoy People In Dover - they've presumably been planning this for a while so that everyone dressed the same And let's assume their claimed 500 people is true That's still fuck all They are a fringe, niche group of dickheads

Gulf energy producers have lost all faith in Trump and are quietly accepting Iran's permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz — because the alternative, returning to war, would be worse, the WSJ reports. The global damage Trump has wrought with his incompetence is incalculable.

Keir Starmer was already moving as fast as was possible in taking us back towards the EU. He was liked and admired in Europe, AND TRUSTED. The upstart usurper Burnham is none of those things. It is going to take many extra YEARS now. Anyone who doesn't get that is away with the faeries.

I don't think the BBC has any conception of how bloody irritating its "what has the BBC ever done for me" advert is. #BBC

I’ve joined Oxfam in setting out five tests for the new Prime Minister’s first 100 days. These first decisions will set the direction for years to come. Words are easy, but the real test is the choices made in the weeks ahead. www.oxfam.org.uk/get-involved...
