New preprint! Karin Schumacher's postdoc Nadja used our SidK approach to purify Arabidopsis V-ATPase & Mariia Khamina determined its structure. The structure shows unique plant V-ATPase features and that TLDc proteins (here OXR5) bind V-ATPase in all eukaryotes. 🌱 tinyurl.com/mw9xaszk

We have done so much for cancer outcomes and prevention over the last couple of decades. Some cancers are even being completely eradicated. Because, SCIENCE!

Enormous news. A melanoma vaccine, one of the most deadly cancers out there. Science is good and helpful and there should be more of it. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/...

Happy to share my PhD work on the regulatory mechanism of E3 ligase RNF213! RNF213 is not a monomer, but a dimer that switches between inhibited and activated states in an ATP-dependent manner. We tracked the activation mechanism and showed how disease mutations can destabilize the inhibited state.

I hear so much about the growing power of predictive biology, especially in drug discovery and "co-folding". I want to see people put their GPU budget where their mouth is!

29(!) years ago I visited Richard Henderson at LMB to ask about doing a PhD. Richard asked Sarah, a senior student, to take me for a (truly terrible, this was England in the 90s) coffee at Addenbrooks hospital to talk about grad student life at LMB. Amazing what Sarah has accomplished since then!

Collaborators and colleagues of Sarah Teichmann gathered at the LMB to mark 25 years since she established her research group in the LMB’s Structural Studies Division. 🇨🇦 Today we kicked off our hands-on workshop, “Beyond Consensus Refinements: Advanced Cryo-EM Data Processing with CryoSPARC,” in collaboration with The Hospital for Sick Children @sickkidsto.bsky.social! Excited for two days of diving deeper into advanced #cryoEM data processing with #CryoSPARC. 🔬

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

For the first time in over 30 years, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Northern cod stock has been deemed “healthy” by Ottawa. www.canadianaffairs.news/2026/09/05/i...

📣📣📣 The University of Gothenburg (Sweden) is recruiting 25 (yes, 25!) Assistant Professors in a wide range of disciplines (from arts to education to geology to maths), two of these at our Faculty. Happy to talk to anyone interested in knowing more about Sweden, Gothenburg or GU!

I met Ada when I was a new PI before her Nobel Prize. She spotted a copy of F.A. Cotton's "Chemical Applications of Group Theory" on my shelf and proceeded to tell me some of the most interesting stories about science and scientists I've ever heard. She was one of a kind. Rest in Peace.

We, the Weizmann Institute of Science community, deeply mourn the passing of Prof. Ada Yonath - Nobel Laureate and a Model of Scientific Perseverance. May her memory be a blessing. bit.ly/ada-yonath-eng

Today 🇨🇦 announced the 64 scholars recruited from top US universities for the Canada Global Impact+ Chairs. They sounds like great scientists. But the enormous level of funding funnelled to this program is jaw-dropping when compared to the pitiful success rates at CIHR.

Such an honor to receive the Francis Crick Medal from the Royal Society. As I always say, I am just very lucky to have worked with amazing people. Big shoutout to all past and present lab members, mentors, colleagues and collaborators for continuing inspiring me!

In April this year at a medical conference (ASCO 2026), results of a drug improving overall survival in patients with #PancreaticCancer received a standing ovation - almost unheard of. Exciting to see the RAS inhibitor #daraxonrasib now approved by the FDA for metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. 🧪

MedChemExpress@medchemexpress.bsky.social

The FDA has approved Rasonque (#daraxonrasib), a first-in-class, once-daily oral #RAS(ON) inhibitor, for previously treated metastatic #PDAC. In the Phase 3 RASolute 302 trial (500 patients): 🔹Overall survival: 13.2 vs. 6.7 months 🔹Risk of death reduced by ~60%

So many important contributions. The story of the development of abberation-corrected electron microscopy, in which Prof. Rose player a central role, is one of the most remarkable in science. Arguably should have been awarded a Nobel Prize.
