Older, possibly wiser and definitely totally disillusioned about the willingness of those in power to believe science and act to protect our beautiful earth. Gardener, singer, activist.

Yesterday on fallow land I saw plants that once buzzed with bees & insects before 2000… now silent. Pesticides didn’t just kill pests. They wiped out the pollinators that keep us alive. No bees = no food security. This is environmental terrorism by design.

If you own a fridge, drive a car, fly on a plane, take a pill for pain, use a phone, watch TV, do anything that science has made safe and possible you can’t decide that climate science is in a different category. Selective belief in science is pushed by people who profit from deadly fossil fuels.

"Climate denial is out of touch with reality. They accept scientific facts that benefit humankind in medicine,so why cherry-pick and deny climate science? It's time to reject the lies of climate deniers and stand up for our planet's future. Like and retweet to spread the truth.

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

2 down, 3 to go 🇷🇸 Serbia — Vucic lost 🇧🇷 Brazil — Bolsonaro lost 🇮🇱 Israel — 27 Oct 🇧🇬 Bulgaria — 1 Nov 🇺🇸 USA — 3 Nov

Five tests for nationalism in the next 10 days. Could be genuinely transformative. 🇷🇸 Serbia — Vucic lost (yay!) 🇧🇷 Brazil — Lula leads early count 🇮🇱 Israel — 27 Oct 🇧🇬 Bulgaria — 1 Nov 🇺🇸 USA — 3 Nov One down, one looks promising, three to go.

Buried on page 30 of Sir David Bellend's report into antisemitism in schools in the UK it explicitly says there hasn't been a rise in antisemitism, only in anti-Israel sentiment The conflation of antisemitism with anti-Israel sentiment is intentional, and frankly sickening.

Left- Young Palestinian boy soon after he was shot by an Israeli sniper as he is falling to the ground. Right- Dead Palestinian baby held by his brother. The pure evil of Israel, the U.S., the UK, Germany, etc. in supporting and being complicit in this GENOCIDAl is appalling!

This is exactly the point that needs to be made. A healthy society relies on everyone being able to afford the necessities and also have money for the things that enhance quality of life. It’s not healthy when the richest have more than they can spend in 1000 lifetimes and others can’t eat.

Neal Lawson: "I couldn't live on the meagre benefits people are getting. To suggest that we have to cut those.. actually that's where the engine of growth is, that's the people who spend.. how do you get people out spending.. not by cutting benefits of people at the bottom"

Greta Thunberg comes out to support Lula "If Bolsonaro wins, it will be a disaster for the entire planet... Latin America is not for sale. The eyes of the world are on you Brazil, we are counting on you."

We had such outrage for one building burning down. But silence when Google illegally chops down an entire forest. Even though that has done far more harm.

Capitalism is great at making more. Terrible at knowing when to stop. Infinite growth on a finite planet is a physical impossibility.

Muslims and immigrants, despite all the lies we're told about them, have never presented a systemic threat to Western security, let alone to "Western civilisation". Instead, the threats come from our governments, especially in the US, and their grim alliances with capital and overseas dictators.

Burnham was Labour's last chance at plausibly being anything other than continuity Thacherism. The same bankrupt ideology that privatised water, outsourced the NHS, created the housing crisis and much more. They have no answers and can't ever pretend to from now on.

The Lakota language does not contain nouns but it does contain the verb "wacan", meaning “to consciously apply mystery to everything”. In other words, the opposite of what we've been doing in the rest of the West since the Enlightenment. Time to wacan again.

Good morning from the heart of Africa. I cross villages on foot in the rain and under tropical heat with no salary and no organization behind me,because the Congo rainforest still breathes for all of us. It stores vast carbon, shelters over 10,000 plant species.

Every means of corruption and manipulation is being used to keep the orange horror with the power to trash democracy, nature and the earth. If voting machines are not scrutinised for accuracy elections are defunct. People, please check your votes! And make sure every blue voter does the same.

"Green energy isn't perfect." Nothing is. But it's a hell of a lot better than a planet that's uninhabitable. Progress, not perfection.

If you think that stockpiling food will get us out of this, think again. We need to drastically and immediately reduce all fossil fuel use, and even that may be too late. We may be clever as a species but we’re not wise.

#FOTW Daily Post 19 1.5°C equates to key tipping points such as the loss of the Greenland Ice Sheet that, once crossed, won't reverse on any human timescale. 1.5°C isn't a slogan. It's a set of one-way doors to a different world And it's now shut behind us Pls share + tag 2 #FateOfTheWorld
