Archaeology, banjos, Taitokerau, preschoolers and teens, lack of executive function, second chances, mental exhaustion, well-toasted bread, banjos. Not the real-life Indiana Jones, more a dwarfish sort of Evelyn O'Connell

Hi to new followers. I am Jono, a 48 year old consultant archaeologist/para-historian in Taitokerau, northern Aotearoa-New Zealand. Once divorced father of three boys 17, 13, 4, partner to Dr Marine Biologist who is now retraining in MRI. Owns four banjos. Lives by the beach. Grumpy old socialist.

Fountains of Wayne and 3EB...and Weezer in early March? Mother, May I? Hmmm late Feb roadie to Dunners with 17, then Womad, then work sis wedding in mid-late March. How drippy is my candle gonna be with both ends on fire?

I can’t believe we have voter repression and open racism plus poor hating, a cesspool of a society all because Jacinda Ardern asked us to be kind #NZPol

Have been tooling around as pax in missus' new (second hand) ev for four days and by god it really is a revelation. Toe dipping with a low kms 2021 MG ZS which she now uses for her 60km roundtrip commute (50/10 rural open road/urban). The expression cheap and cheerful was coined for this vehicle.

Change one word and make an SFF title mundane: The Tarnsman of Gordon The Outlaw of Gordon Priest-Kings of Gordon Assasin of Gordon Slave-girl of Gordon Plunder of Gordon

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

Remember when we VacciNationed? Fuggin Epic. Good on Uganda.

In just five days, Uganda vaccinated 8.3 million children against measles and rubella. The nationwide drive, which ended on 5 October, covered every child aged nine months to five years, whatever their vaccine history. The Cooperator buff.ly/7VnZOYR #ShareGoodNewsToo

Love my work sis but the other day she, employed in a made-up profession of smelly hippies solely earning due to a marginal statute that could change in a moment, would have to go "do some research" about who to vote for.

They should stop thinking of their niche in terms of liberal/conservative/centrist and think seriously about what relation to power and institutions they want to have

Weirdly listening to Superchunk for the first time this week. Eight hours over over two days, taking the edge off commuting to Dargavegas

Anyone know why the UoA Māori Land Court Minutes Book Index is not available on the web/restricted access? Was there last week when I last used it.

If he can afford to pay for Doctor's visits, I am guessing he could also cope with 3 free visits and pay more taxes. The whole argument against raising taxes boils down to "but I can afford it, why should I help pay for others to get it?" Universality is both simpler, and ultimately fairer.

Wow Kiwisaver return for the year heading towards 1% Something's gotta give, ya'll The problem with all the arseholes is it messes with everyone elses humanity. Told the white, middle-aged water tanker guy there were 12 people the explosion of whom would bring me happiness and he just...agreed.

The former has no bearing on the latter. I would still want them dead even if my return was back up to 14% I just remembered abiut the tanker guy as I was typing.

How many times must I explain to the same client why and what I have to do and that there is a cost and its in the olan and thenolan is written to meet the consitions of your permit and the permit is reuired by the law and law is two years older than I am. We are 4 years, 3 PrMgs and 3 seasons in!

This one's maybe a little on the ling side, but trust me, it's worth it. I've cried reading it multiple times. (1/3)

17 has asked me to drive him to Dunedin for uni because he "...doesnt want to take his guitar on the plane in a soft case" Bless, I could buy him a hard case and save a week of driving, annual leave, ferry tickets and incidentals and we could fly. But he might actually want to spend time with me!

Anyone know whether those big govt/corp ev fleets from 22/23 are gonna be replaced by more evs? Is savings on the cost of gas gonna make up for thenloss of the clean car rebate? Fyi Turners in Whangarei has 1x Kona being marketed, and maybe a dozen waiting on valet/valuation.

Wee carved bakelite doggo, excavated from a late 19th-early 20th century boarding house associated with a toheroa (Paphies ventricosa, shellfish) cannery, Whangaroa.

Worst (WORST!!!) excavation ever. Middle of winter, exposed headland, horizontal rain, most of the rubbish was disposed off the cliffs into tide leaving little to find, sticky wet, heavy clay impossible to trowel.
