I learned is how common it is for people to use nicknames for people and animals in Latin America. When we moved to Bucerias in 2023 was when I found out that Mexicans excel at this to an incredible level. expatstories.substack.com/p/nicknames

A couple of years ago, a friend of ours suggested that we join her on a tour of Tolantongo in spring 2025. First, I had to figure out how to spell and pronounce the location. Then we looked it up. It looked really beautiful, so we signed up for the trip. expatstories.substack.com/p/tolantongo

In the U.S. and Canada, summer is over now. The equinox has past and the seasonal wheel has turned. For those of us farther south, summer weather continues until sometime at the end of October or November. Sometimes, the hot and humid lasts to December. expatstories.substack.com/p/your-summe...

We were visiting the U.S. All of the hotels, served crappy breakfasts. You might get stale doughnuts, reheated treats from a big box store, day old oatmeal clumped or, if you were lucky, waffles from the machine Or, you could try Latin America expatstories.substack.com/p/breakfast-...

In Boquete, we were happy to find that their own lovely coffee was available in every shop and store. I was very concerned when we moved to Mexico. It is also known for its production. That slightly bitter drink is soothing and a perfect way to wake up. expatstories.substack.com/p/coffee
