@zachweinersmith.bsky.social My 8-year old stumbled on the copy of Bea Wolf I checked out from the library (I am delinquent in returning it) and devoured it before I could read it with her. Even the making -of chapter at the end has he enraptured. She's already excited for a sequel!

It is not my birthday any more but the sale is still going on!
Today is my birthday! It is a big one too. I'm a half-century old today. To celebrate, I have made my book free on Kobo: www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/... and it is on sale for your Kindle for $2.99: www.amazon.com/dp/B0GX3147V6 for the next few days! Please enjoy and spread the word.

This morning, the D&D team and Magic's Studio X informed our leadership of our intent to unionize. We love the games we make and the work we do, and unionizing is how we protect that work. unitedwizardsofthecoast.com/news/dnd-stu...

Go on a journey with this poor person. Hopefully a pleasant denouement is in the near future. What a stalwart bunch!
lol my flight got diverted because of a medical emergency and they landed us in reykjavik in the middle of the night and deplaned us and sent us through passport control and then the crew vanished and then british airways sent us links to book an overnight hotel room but for a hotel at heathrow
Short thread 🧵. Mars, huh, good god, y'all...
People are fairly antitech currently, which isn't entirely unreasonable, but one of the strange things with A City on Mars is we had supporters and detractors who both understood us to be saying "Mars settlement is impossible." But, like, we even provide a roadmap at the end?

Social media has been entirely about implementing behavior modification techniques.
One Internet problem, which you can't entirely blame corporate platforms for is that humans are stupid about attention. And, worse, over the last 20 years, all the big tricks have been discovered. So, even if tomorrow facebook said "from now on artists get a cut of ad rev" it'd still be bad.

Accurate take on higher ed.
Dunno if this is a hot take, but whereas this article is floating around, it's worth noting that the administration's chaotic numbnutserry on science/uni funding wouldn't be that big an issue if not for the 50 year long trend of states disinvesting in universities. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/06/u...
100% true. I don't hustle on all the socials because I have a job wherein I don't need to be constantly fishing for sales. I wrote a book to see if I could but I know, despite all my flights of fancy, that it will never make me money and will probably have cost me more than it will ever produce.
A strange thing for me about the modern internet is that it's so oriented around branding and monetization, that on most platforms there's not just commerce, but the *typical* interaction is at least partially commercial. I understand this: I nag people to read my books on these platforms.

Incidentally, when we're not run by anti-immigrationists, the US is pretty darn good at integrating the foreign-born into our social fabric. We've been doing it for a long time. Turning our backs on it will impoverish all of our kids while ruining lives of people who could work here productively.
