I think it is important to say about this, that from all the data we have on long covid, that if these people have covid (currently high in the US) around 10% of these people are going to walk away with a chronic, possibly permanent disability, and that should not be an acceptable number to anyone.

I am b e g g i n g people to mask up at major cons, *especially* ones with 5-digit crowd sizes!! Lightbox this weekend was absolutely ravaged; I’m hearing of SO many attendees and exhibitors who got sick from doing the show this year!! Please stay safe out there! 🙏 🙏

Something benefiting you personally is not necessarily a good thing. Something that inconveniences you personally is not necessarily a bad thing.

Nothing special needs to happen for you to start being kinder to yourself today. Start right after reading this post. It might be awkward at first-- it's unfamiliar-- & trust, your trauma conditioning will howl & writhe & mock you for it. Which tells you you're on to something.

Today, no matter how you feel, you do have strengths. You also have vulnerabilities. You also have opportunities. You also have threats to manage. All that coexists, today. Realism about it all-- refusing to bullsh*t ourselves-- is the key to sustainable trauma recovery.

Contrary to what our "fawn" response believes, approval does not necessarily equal safety. The backflips we do to gain others' approval can actually telegraph to dangerous people that we can be manipulated-- that our addiction to approval is exploitable.

Resharing this because I still need about $1,100. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s already donated and shared. Thank y’all so much! ❤️

I’m gonna scream. Not only does my appointment next week NOT help with housing, it ALSO doesn’t declare me disabled, which means ANOTHER step in the process. I’ll be homeless in less than a month, and I’ll die from my heart condition. Please consider donating. I need $2k. gofund.me/a192a7989

This is what Love Lies Bleeding got right about the 80s: everything in the 80s wasn’t neon and bright colors and crazy prints. Everything was fucking Brown

Darryl Mott@gamerstavernshow.com

That's the bit everyone gets wrong. They try to look like the 80s/90s and they pick whatever was in fashion or what was on TV show sets at that time. Most people lag about a decade behind whatever the furniture and decor trends are because they only buy stuff when they need to replace them.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

The East German queer classic “Coming Out” (1989, directed by Heiner Carow) follows a young teacher who stumbles into a gay bar where he meets a twink dressed up like a clown who ends up changing his life.

"What often gets lost or overlooked in the conversation about book censorship is prison censorship… [Which] forces a much harder look at America’s history and legacy… The prison system is part of the legacy of slavery in America."

"Lupe" sent us this pic saying "We are harvesting strawberries in Nipomo, CA. It's raining and the fields are getting flooded and are slippery, but we need to continue working. There's no choice at this time of year as it is essential to save money for the winter." #WeFeedyou

It's my favorite time of the year again. It's that time where I'm extra loud about my Asexuality. I'm always always loud and proud, and I will always continue to be. I remember there being a time when I was the only Ace I knew, and now I get to talk to other aces everywhere and do events with them.

Respirators in healthcare facilities is the bare minimum we should do. The bar is so low when it comes to public health.

“ @mark-ungrin.bsky.social believes N95 masks should be worn in all hospitals, the spaces where people are often the most vulnerable or have a higher chance of spreading disease. ‘why aren’t we doing more of this in health care facilities? If it doesn’t get inside you, it can’t make you sick””

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

This 19th c lady’s multitool was found in the pocket(!) of an antique (1872) garment donated to the historic clothing archive at my employer. It features a button hook for fitted gloves and a tiny corkscrew. The corkscrew is too small for wine & was probably intended to open apothecary bottles.

the thing about a lot of gothic romances, traditionally, is that they go, "oh, wouldn't it be so tragic, if She Died?" and the thing is like yeah. but it would be more tragic if she had to live and get married to Sir Dumbfuck and have a bunch of children and become a laudunum addict. so hey-ho

An underrated trauma recovery hack is to keep a promise to yourself every day, something small. Recovery is largely about rebuilding that relationship w/ ourselves, & realistic self-trust accretes & compounds, day by day.

Julia Gulia 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 reposted

The fact that trauma recovery asks us to work & focus on ourselves doesn't mean there's not awful sh*t in the world that should change. I'd never maintain the "only" thing that matters is how WE feel & function. But: to change the world, WE have to stay alive & think straight.

That thing you're struggling w/ today is not the final word on your mental or behavioral health. It's truly not. It's where you are today, w/ the strengths & vulnerabilities you have today. It's a snapshot. Don't overreact to it or get over invested in it. It WILL change.

Julia Gulia 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 reposted

Think of your trauma recovery as investing in things no one can ever take away from you: your beliefs, your self-esteem, your skillset. Abusers & bullies have tried to control what you say to yourself, what you focus on, & how you use & care for your body for years. No more.
