the risk of a gas price spike due to refinery issues is behind us, Great Lakes states- wholesale prices continue to plummet in the region & stand *significantly* lower than last Thursday. let's hope there's no new issues- prices in OH, MI and WI should decline notably this week.
What President Trump has seen as an American–Iranian war is becoming connected with the Yemeni civil war, the Horn of Africa, the Nile dispute, and the security of the Red Sea. Wars grow. ICYMI @markhertling.bsky.social:
So far most Great Lakes states have avoided retail gas price surges but some a few stations here and there but nothing yet widespread. Still on the fence if we’re going to see any big moves- monitoring the situation! Wholesale prices down 35-75c/gal
Looks like even KY and WV may get sucked into the refinery snags in the Great Lakes. This is rack price data from OPIS, showing wholesale gas price changes from yesterday...
TRUMP: We gave nothing in exchange for Stephen. We never give anything in exchange for hostages.
TRUMP LITERALLY MOMENTS LATER: If I implemented sanctions on Russia, Steven wouldn't be coming out right now.
Chicago spot gasoline up another off-the-chart 53c/gal today so far... impacts to gas prices in WI, IL, IN, MI, OH and this could pull in IA, MN, and nearby states
oh my goodness what is going on in the Great Lakes market, this train just keeps... oooof. arb is WIDE OPEN for Gulf refiners to send gasoline north into Great Lakes
The Sunday refinery flaring at $XOM in Joliet, IL is bringing a second day of jumps in wholesale gasoline and diesel. Gas and diesel price increases could happen in IL, IN, OH, MI and WI soon.
Humiliating and dangerous: Trump has now finally just made America an ally of the Kremlin and is aiding Putin in his war against an American friend and partner. Shameful betrayal of a US friend, and pathetic submission to a US enemy.

the Great Lakes refining snag from earlier this week is very much unwinding (for now). states that jumped (IN, OH, IL, WI) will now see a decline- both for gasoline and diesel. MI should avoid a jump this week and prices in these states should fall 10-25c in the next week
Russia attacks a Ukrainian powerplant, violating the energy ceasefire. Trump responds by threatening to cut Ukraine’s arms, not Russia. Ukraine says it’s ready to stop hitting refineries. Russia signals it isn’t. draw your own conclusions.
tomorrow will tie 2022's record for number of days with the national average above $4/gal. 2022 saw 157 days above $4. today is our 156th day above $4 this year. tomorrow, we tie that 157 days and Wednesday we set a new record for most days above $4/gal in any year ever.
Chicago marathon tomorrow… we’ll see how this goes since despite getting the training in, ever since my neck surgery end of last year some days are better.

These summits are too embarrassing - and too dangerous, with Trump's instability - and the country would be safer and better off if our president weren't hosting them.

it continues to absolutely boggle my mind how few people realize that refineries in the US Rockies, Plains, Midwest/Great Lakes rely so heavily on millions of barrels of Canadian crude oil *every day* and have since the 1950s
The entire interior U.S. should be alarmed as Canada fast tracks a new crude oil pipeline from Alberta to Canada's West Coast that will push more of Canada's oil away from U.S. refineries that rely on it, and could negatively impact U.S. refineries.
some good news for diesel- average diesel prices are seeing weekly drops in 46 of the nation's 50 states so far, with double digit decreases in 20 states. we'll likely continue to see more diesel declines for the time being.
There’s no scientific basis to many of the public health concerns some critics have with solar development, an expert told ProPublica.

wholesale gasoline prices appear to be reacting to the potential diesel export controls- California wholesale gas prices hit 30-day highs, along with NY region and Gulf region. I'll keep watching, but as I mentioned earlier, touching diesel exports could do this *exactly*
banning diesel exports is unlikely to be successful in pushing diesel prices down aside from Gulf states, it will likely push refiners to cut production rates which could mean even higher gasoline prices as well. conventional wisdom that it’ll lower prices? it’s a trap.
⚠️XOM RESTARTING: big price relief coming to the states hardest hit by the power outage at the ExxonMobil refinery in Joliet, IL last week. Gasoline seeing a large 23c/gal drop and diesel down even more significantly. Price relief coming to MI, IN, OH, IL, WI soon.
this talk of “running out” of diesel is THE madness. the U.S. is sitting on 4.08 BILLION gallons of (<15ppm) distillates today, which is up from 4.05 billion a wk ago. just bc a few stations have issues does not mean a nationwide crisis is brewing. now sit down & relax plz.
some good news for your Friday- Great Lakes wholesale gasoline prices (MI, IN, OH, IL, WI) are pointing to a 20c/gal dip, which may relieve some retail price pressure as XOM is rumored to be in restart process, but wholesale diesel on the other hand is up 11c/gal.
Great Lakes aren't going to like this, but due to continued refinery challenges, the wholesale price of gasoline continues to be under upward pressure. WI, IL, IN, MI saw price jumps, Ohio may see another soon as well
on Chicago/Great Lakes refinery issues, diesel spot prices continue to point higher- a bbl of diesel flowing out of a refinery is now fetching $233/bbl, and retail diesel is still under upward pressure. gasoline as well, fetching $162/bbl
ALERT: #GreatLakes and #Rockies regions are likely to see another price hike this week, even with price jumps that happened already yesterday and today due to huge jumps in wholesale gasoline and diesel prices. Gasoline could jump 25-75c with diesel rising 55-85c/gal
the Great Lakes is about to wipe out its spring diesel records... Chicago spot diesel now commanding a **32** cent premium on ULSD vs the spring *peak*
⚠️will be watching Great Lakes spot gasoline and diesel prices today- some pressure will ease with change to winter gasoline- but BP Whiting, IN refinery partially down for maintenance, and ExxonMobil Joliet, IL reporting a power outage that sounds significant...
