not that I am a fan of Jonathan Haidt, but this clicks with a lot of stuff I've heard (and once been on the receiving end of, when I helped edit a blog at the Washington Post and published a piece by a third party that a Facebook flack took exception to).

New court documents show that Meta has been explicitly scheming to control the scientific narrative about their social media platforms

Please follow Marisa. Also when the video w @markjacob.bsky.social came out many of us said that Healy was far too overconfident. In fact a lot of the public is pissed at bad NYT coverage but didn’t know who to blame. Now the public knows who to blame. That’s what’s happening here 👇

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

Bias is hard to prove because there is no gold-standard to how much (and how) any given story should be covered. But, we know that Trump (as president) immediately disregarded Document Retention & Security and NYT buried those stories. And, we know NYT can lean into a position, if they choose.

Of all of the fancy things I have every done with data, the figure that has created the most impact, by far was simply lining up NYT front-pages in PowerPoint and highlighting the 10 articles in a 6 day period before the 2016 election centered on Clinton's Document Retention & Security policy.

Real freedom isn't doing whatever you want to do. We've been sold a shallow version of liberty: leave me alone and let me follow my desires.

before the election, doing dogpile coverage on Trump's heavily documented and extremely plausible rape allegations would be Political and therefore improper. after the election it's time to turn the page, let bygones be bygones, look forward not backward, bsky.app/profile/hoff...

I almost missed this post due to the deafening volume, fullness, and rapidity of @patrickhealynyt.bsky.social’s practically immediate response. … [crickets] … 🤨

"Israeli antisemite" is apparently a thing, and not that uncommon too

Joel S.@joelhs.bsky.social

Here is the Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs, spreading the antisemitic conspiracy theory that the Soros family are the puppet masters behind the election in Brazil yesterday. The Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs seems to see it as his job to make the Diaspora less safe.

Americans are heading into the midterms gloomier than before any midterm on record. The consumer sentiment number released Friday is at 48, far below 2022 (60) and 15% lower than just before the Iran War.

It's absolutely crazy the scandal of Donny Jr's wedding bill being paid by this guy dropped and two weeks later he meets him in Mongolia! Related: Trump said Junior would reimburse has anyone seen the receipts? These people have no bottom.

NEW: We uncovered another trip shared by Donald Trump Jr and Umar Kremlev, the Kremlin-linked oligarch who attended his wedding. In August, they went hunting for a rare wild sheep in the remote Mongolian wilderness:

Even if there was a Canada-US trade deal, how long does a Trump trade deal last anyways in the best of circumstances? One... two months?

The Paxtons’ blind trust invested $600K in a convicted fraudster’s new company. Experts say the trust wasn’t truly blind as the Paxtons reported losses from it on their taxes. Angela Paxton also sat on an affiliate’s advisory board for several years. with @texastribune.org

it is odd in retrospect how easy it was for the “but trump ended his friendship with epstein” narrative to be accepted as fact

Evidence "shows that Trump lied about kicking Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club," according to a new report from the House Judiciary Dem staff. The report also reveals for the first time Beatrice Keul's account of allegedly having been raped by Trump. democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...
