Very long shot. Do I know anyone in or near Phuket who can do me a favour? I left my wallet in a hotel earlier this year. They've just let me know they found it. Anyone over there willing to pick it up & post it back to me? Happy to pay, of course.

When my youngest was about 8 or 9 I heard him saying ‘Brexit tackle’ in FIFA with his mates, referring to a ridiculously violent and pointless foul that would lead to a straight red resulting in losing the match

@dracos.co.uk Hi, I have another query about the split.traintimes result I got! Off peak, BHM->CDF via AGV, £78.20 reduces to £53.60 by splitting at CWM; COV->CDF via AGV, £82.70 but only reduces to £72.20 with the same split, and doesn't split at BHM (which is what I will do). Why no BHM split?

"the assessment did not consider the crocodiles" is my new metaphor for people choosing to just ignore the data point that doesn't agree with them

Tom Roberts@tpgroberts.bsky.social

Now, just personally, I would have considered the crocodiles

More like human(ity's) centipede. Quite literally consuming, digesting and regurgitating someone else's produce over and over again.

Folks, remember when Geoff Hinton called gpt-2 humanity's caterpillar and gpt-3 humanity's butterfly or something like that? Also remember how he said radiologists were gonna be obsolete in 5 years (but he said that ~10 years ago)? Ok now, he says ChatGPT is an alien being.

People who do this and similar, after being prosecuted for vandalism, should be forced to attend a basic science course, akin to the speed awareness course for drivers.

The Cinema Museum still needs help to secure their premises; there's a donor who, all this bank holiday weekend, is going to match donations, so if you haven't given yet, throw in a bit now, and claim gift aid so it can do the most good!

It seems like a minor thing but this is actually THE thing.

Oh I fuckin hate it out here. Yesterday I had to search Gmail for the quotation-enclosed string “code of conduct” and Gmail showed me every email that contains the word “of”

From the Stedelijk Museum yesterday: In the World But Don't Know the World (2009) by Ghanaian artist El Anatsui. Made entirely out of bottle caps strung together with copper wire. (I feel like a rube. Hey, look at these nifty Newmans and Motherwells! Nah, I like the one made out of bottle caps.)

I know you all hate the emergency alert about disposable barbeques. But yesterday I watched a man at our hotel breakfast set fire to a toaster by trying to toast a croissant - despite multiple signs telling him not to. Today he tried again. So, you know, calibrate for the average person.

This is an interesting thread which makes a really good point about how the big marketing-led companies have made things harder for creatives. Again.

This is a triggering image of a museum display in the natural history museum in DC about life before smartphones. Me and a fellow 40+ person were laughing at how we are now LITERAL MUSEUM PIECES. MY teen was like did you have a clear phone? An address book? A book of maps. Yes, yes I did. 🫠🫠🫠

I mean does she seriously expect that Elizabeth should have told her that she was going to offer Fallon a job? That an employer would tell another employer she was going to offer a job to their employee, just because of a family relationship? #TheArchers

So a masculinist understanding of notetaking would think a transcription app is the same as taking notes. That’s why they think an AI transcript is a time-saver. They think the notes are the thinking because when a human takes the notes, it is.

Do I know anyone who gets the *print* copy of Saga magazine? If so, I'd love a copy of the latest issue when you're done with it. There's an interview in there with my wife, Liz, about @openbenches.org 😊

I keep thinking there needs to be a network that somehow helps authors to do the promotional stuff, now that publishers don't and that social networks are losing traction. Like... I don't know. Help making plans, and practical help with whatever needs doing. Do we have that?

friends, please: don’t use transreads dot org they claim to support trans authors, but take our entire texts, post them for free, fundraise off it, and have the gall to claim it’s about preservation they are literally taking money from trans creators and make it harder for us to keep creating
