The pro-life party who argued that violent movies were corrupting the youth now wants to live stream a public execution. Got it.

Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

AI Chatbot disclaimers that say the information it gives may be inaccurate is like Q-Tip telling people not to stick it in your ear

in a staff meeting and resisting bopping my head to the Greek National Anthem playing in my mind

peter thiel is another one of those guys who we are supposed to think is brilliant but every time he opens his mouth my first thought is “this guy sounds like an idiot”

This is actually hell, right?

Having worked in school all my life, [...] we are very sensitive to plagiarism [, which] is when you take a couple of people's ideas and you present them as your own. Well, what do you call it when you take a lot of people's ideas and present them as your own? That's called "research". —Fr Tom Hopko

vocal analysis/song analysis YouTube channels are too positive. I want someone brave enough to post a video picking apart a Depeche Mode song for being musically wrong

looked up the background to why "glaze" has become a word to describe excessive/cringeworthy praise in recent years... and so glad I didn't use it in a work meeting when being dismissive of people who are a little *too* into their chatbot that they've named and who does all their work for them

If the Dems do a Project 2029 type thing of shovel ready policy papers it's gonna be a lot of shit like "loan forgiveness for pell grant recipients who start business" when it should be "we asked 50 retired OEM dealer relations lawyers how to fuck over car dealers and here's what they said"

The cyclospora outbreak has reached 13,895 cases across 47 states. The FDA has recalled 1.6 million eggs due to salmonella contamination. Screwworm cases continue to rise. And we’ve just surpassed 2,500 measles cases — breaking 2025’s record. “Make America Healthy Again.”

there's something deeply satisfying about Elon Musk attempting to do his usual "robots on the Moon and a space fleet too" shtick, but instead of doing it to sycophantic followers, it's to investors on an earnings call and they're all smelling bullshit

gonna watch The Odyssey the way God intended: on my phone sitting on the can a couple months after it's put on streaming or something I guess

I get way too much satisfaction from walking through a room, getting "i want some potato chips" from my kid and going "that's nice" and continue walking

my favorite genre of "didn't read the book" is describing Karl Marx as a mid-19th Century agitator. If it weren't for his political advocacy (which was not the left edge for his time), he'd be remembered as an economist in the classical school like Adam Smith, David Ricardo, or John Stewart Mill

he was also not a prophet, as some devotees of the Immortal Science treat him. Just a 19th Century economist applying some rigor to the field and responding to the grim inhumanity that the new mode of production brought and wanting to do something to move beyond it

notably beyond it because he saw capitalism as doing good by destroying feudalism, which he regarded as having an integrated political and economic life but kept most of the population in unfreedom, while capitalism, in theory, did liberate but clearly left people alienated and under new controllers

when did people stop following ONE WAY arrows? the ONE WAY signs are still up, the arrows are still painted on the asphalt, the ENTER ONLY and EXIT ONLY signs are still up, but I'm encountering people who ignore them every week now. Did they abolish one ways recently and nobody told me?

every time I hear someone explain how they think vis-a-vis "internal monologue", "visualize an apple", etc, I cannot help but wonder how much of it is *actual* differences in how people think vs different people describing how they think in ways seemingly incompatible with how others describe it

like, people who say they don't have an internal monologue will clarify that they do think in words when thinking about words, and people who say they do have an internal monologue will clarify that they aren't thinking about *everything* in words sounds like 2 ways to describe the same thing!

now that the Iran thing is over (for a week? a month? a season?) we can go back to our previous national topic: the Epstein Files
