Wow! Hello all my new followers! So happy to see you. It will take a minute to follow back. If any of you are part of my old bird app community or Threads, pls say hi 👋. I’m anxious to rebuild my community. Much gratitude 💙

Vile is a perfect description. Trans folks - please know so many have this view. You deserve to live with peace & ease! 🏳️‍⚧️ You are loved by so many - we will keep fighting for you!

Clarence Thomas's concurring opinion in the trans sports ban case in West Virginia contains some of the ugliest transphobic stuff I have ever seen in a legal opinion. Straight-up gleeful. Vile man. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Really well put criticism by Sotomayor here: the majority describes trans girls as an existential threat to women's sports but also so insignificant that excluding them doesn't raise any equal protection concerns.

We must continue the fight to affirm thepower & promise of the14th Amendment until all Americans understand,as Justice KBJ reminds us in her concurrence today“The Reconstruction Amendments were an anticaste, antisubordination reset 4 the Nation, not a mere spot treatment for thedark stain of slavery.”

14thamendmentctr.org14th Amendment Center Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Trump v. Barbara - The 14th Amendment CenterFounder Sherrilyn Ifill welcomes the reaffirmation of birthright citizenship, which has been our foundational law since 1868.

As I’ve been saying.. (and getting criticized for being disappointed by Schumer & Jeffries “victorious” statements-they need to be prepared to fight if we retake the House majority).

Democracy Docket@democracydocket.com

NEW: SCOTUS’ narrow decision to uphold birthright citizenship should worry anyone concerned about voting rights. Why? A successful bid to restrict birthright citizenship would supercharge efforts to restrict ballot access. And for Republicans, this is just the beginning.

two things. first, always an irony that alito recapitulates the exact same arguments made against his immigrant forbearers. second, if this is all the 14th amendment did it would not have repudiated dred scott

This folks! I’m not sure many of us “ignored” Roe. But the victory statements by Jeffries & Schumer are alarming. They are celebrating like it was a 9-0 ruling!

ElieNYC@elienyc.bsky.social

With this ruling, the birthright issue is not going away. The right hasn't really begun *organizing* around getting rid of the citizenship clause. Like Roe, this will be their fight for a generation. And if the Democrats just say "we won" and ignore it, like Roe, the Republicans will eventually win.

Life is hard for so many. This timeline is a lot. So much at stake. So many struggling to survive. I know I’m not alone..but I’m used to being a helper, an organizer, a fighter. I hate that I’m fighting just to survive another day, no spoons left for anything else. I want better for so many.

Folks…I feel gutted I haven’t been my usual active self - fighting for rights & democracy. Life is extremely challenging right now. If only I had proper healthcare, my vision restored & my ability to live a life of purpose. But instead I’m hustling many gigs while trying to set up a gofundme😔

What happens when SCOTUS disempowers lowers courts from enforcing basic constitutional rights at the behest of an authoritarian president committed to implementing white nationalism.

If your message is aligned with Fox, perhaps it should give you pause. I get the disappointment but let’s focus the rage on an ENTIRE party that is complicit! The Republicans are endorsing lawless, kidnapping, killing, harming and trampoline on our constitutional rights. Send them the smoke!

Jennifer Kashdan reposted

Most Americans agree we need to get money out of politics. If that takes a constitutional amendment, then that's what we have to do. And if that's going to take years, then it's all the more reason to begin pushing now.

Folks, a single individual in California receiving CalFresh aka SNAP benefits max is $292/month. If that person earns over $1,632/month,they lose their benefits. Republicans are voting to reduce that benefit so billionaires & multi-millionaires can get a huge tax cut. It’s egregious.

Democrats just bought voters an extra 12-15 hours to call their GOP senators and tell them that if they vote on this bill they WILL be held accountable. That's what SHOULD happen. But voters will instead blame Schumer for being in the minority and refuse to do anything to help themselves.

Burgess Everett@burgessev.bsky.social

Schumer objects to waiving the reading of the bill. The clerk is now reading the entire reconciliation bill. This is going to take awhile. See you tomorrow

House Republicans smuggled this👇attack on the federal judiciary into their reconciliation bill. Courts rarely require plaintiffs to post security, so this provision, if passed into law, would render a vast number of existing judgments—including Boasberg's contempt order—effectively unenforceable.
