Students “… knocked on doors. They went village by village and made phone calls, one conversation at a time. They leaned on the independent outlets still willing to tell the truth.” Nonviolent strategies produced results!

#ShowMeYourKnits 🧶 #knitsky This week it’s hats. I made this to replace a “lost” hat (found later in a pocket). Like the other, it’s light enough for the “keys and hat grab and go” routine! Deets in alt txt.

Been sittin’ on my duff for most of the last month due to a series of small surgeries. All is well and I’m up and about now, doing all the things! (They pile up!) Did our last cleanup walk at Awbury Arboretum today, earning our 5% discount for the year at the food co-op! Picture deets in alt txt.

Went for a walk to the hardware store to pick up some masking tape. Learned that I can recover from being unhinged and retrieve my loose screws there too! Also met Zen Cat on the way home. He interrupted his meditation to accept some skritches.

Students from North Carolina A&T can be seen marching back to their HBCU after voting on the first day of early voting in the state. The Guilford County Board of Elections voted to remove the school’s on-campus polling site. (video via Todd Simmons) greensboro.com/news/local/g...

🧶 #knitting #knitsky #ShowMeYourKnits It’s cables week! I made these cozy mittens for a friend. They’re the Sydänmaa Mittens by Hanna Leväniemi in Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted “Grey Heather”.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

#knitting 🧶 #knitsky Knitters are most likely to be distracted by a “killer” sweater!

Daniel Radosh@radosh.bsky.social

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"

1/2 For the next 90 days, a local artist collective–Members’ Work–has transformed a previously vacant Market Street storefront into a gallery featuring artworks and items made from reused materials. This is one of many storefront activations as part of the Meantime project.

Hurricane remnants (just rain) mean it’s an indoors kind of day. But we can enjoy autumnal colors anyway, and it’s a good excuse to pull out a hand-knit scrappy sweater! Also, please enjoy yesterday’s garden visitor.

Its that time of year — our annual trash pickup sessions at Awbury Arboretum, located in the Germantown neighborhood of Philly. We volunteer through our local food co-op. In addition to free access to shady (tidy, trash-free) grounds, there are also chicken and goats to visit!

Philly: Don’t miss your flight! The Bearded Ladies’ Hairport and “Priority Hoarding A Retrospectacle” is open now through December 20. And I could not recommend it more highly!

It’s #socktober on #ShowMeYourKnits!! 🧶 🧦 I wanted to make socks for hubby and I couldn’t find a good toe-up pattern for his big feet so I made one up. I even published it on Ravelry when someone requested it! He was very pleased with the results.

#Philadelphia friends! PA has a kind of early voting. If you’re registered, just go to one of 11 election offices in Philly. If you have a mail-in ballot, you can turn it in directly to election officials. If you haven’t requested a ballot you can do that, then fill it out and turn it in. Done! ⬇️

#Pennsyvania friends, I just voted! The last day to register to vote is Monday, 10/19. If you’re already registered, check your status before that date, just in case. Both actions can be done at the link below! PS: checking your registration will also show the address of your polling place.

Another much-beloved R policy (school vouchers) is not just a bad idea in theory, it’s a scam in practice.

Omg…did you read the ProPublica reporting on private schools?

Food banks also face higher food and fuel costs. We should support them, local free fridges, etc. to the extent that we can BUT we need a govt that minimizes the need for those options. VOTE accordingly!!

NEW: Food banks across America are being overwhelmed by surging demand. Scott MacFarlane went inside to see the crisis firsthand. Here’s what he found:

🧶 #showmeyourknits #bskyknits #knitting Theme: what are you excited about or proud of? Sorry if I’ve shared these before … these socks were quite a challenge and I’m proud of how they came out! Pattern: Esther Socks by Stephanie van der Linden Yarn: Zwerger Garn Opal Uni Solid 4-ply

This is a good summary.

Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.

🧶 #bskyknits #knitting #knitsky Cute little warmup project, a free pattern called Dip It by Isabell Kraemer. Using very old stash yarn (Universal Yarn Pace). This decorative stitch is new to me, took a couple of tries to get the hang of it!
