Students from North Carolina A&T can be seen marching back to their HBCU after voting on the first day of early voting in the state. The Guilford County Board of Elections voted to remove the school’s on-campus polling site. (video via Todd Simmons) greensboro.com/news/local/g...

Political parties that can only win elections by disenfranchising selected groups of voters, like students, PoCs, women and anyone living in a Blue-voting district, are morally & ethically bankrupt and don't deserve your vote. MAGA GOP is ~35% of the voters. They should not be in power.

Thank you all for standing up for us all. What a disgusting display of unconstitutional skulduggery on the part of the MAGA/GOP. They will not prevail. Thank you.

They were told, 'we're going to make it hard for you to vote bc we don't want you to vote.' Students said, 'We WILL vote and our votes WILL be counted. We will organize, march in the streets and make the news so everyone can see what you forced us to do so we can vote.' FU We'll not be denied!

Be vigilant too. Check your vote has been recorded....and check it again later on, if possible. I wouldn't put anything beyond Trump & the despicable desperate Republicans.

Republicans: We have a youth problem. College kids hate our policies. NC GOP: "No problem, we'll just move the polling sites off-campus. Dumbasses won't put down their game controllers long enough to vote. NC college kids: FU LFG!

Thank you. I'll admit to ignorance of the local politics. Having said that, I hope this is the energy we see everywhere the kids were told their voting rights didn't matter. Personal note: I hope more Veterans join these kids this time.

"Another Democratic member, Felita Donnell, although joining the majority in supporting the final compromise plan (adding a downtown alternative site), did so as a compromise to secure "some site rather than none," rather than actively advocating removal." Are you GOP activist, asking for a friend.

Yeah, when the argument breaks down to "it wasn't removed, they just didn't keep it" you're off on a tangent from the point. They had to physically go off a campus to vote, and it appears to have motivated them. Go, kids!

Many "local" voting places were terminated a couple of years ago, so we now request mail ballots and drop the completed ones in the drop box that goes directly inside the Elections Office. We grab an "I Voted" sticker and then go to breakfast!

Thank you to the students who are marching to vote. Awful they have to march to vote. Voting should not be hard

This is what happens when you piss people off by removing their polling locations. You try to “mess with the game”, they will teach you the rules!! Well done young people, well done!!👏🏻👏🏻

Nothing says "democracy in action" quite like a board of elections trying to uninstall the voters. Moving the goalposts is a classic bug, but the students are clearly running a superior update.

They closed another polling place next to another HBCU, Fayetteville State, a few years ago. I helped organize a Souls to the Polls event when I was on faculty there. Good for the students, but it obviously shouldn’t be this difficult.

We used to have to stand in line, too. Here in Oregon we now vote by mail and there are no more lines to stand in. Fill out the ballot at your convenience and drop it off from your vehicle into the conveniently located ballot drop box. Long lines are to depress turnout and make it a chore to vote.

We must all vote even for Dog Catcher! For 30 years the GOP in stealth prepared for not a GOP POTUS but a Fuhrer Emperor.. School Board All White & Nazis. State Election Secretaries.JEB Bush had his #KatieKatieKatie To thief FL.for GWB. 6/15 Trump, Putin GOP Ready! McConnell STOP Obama's SCOTUS

Ohh god, I’m crying! Joy & bitterness. Their beautiful young voices and coordination while marching to/from voting — at once heartbreaking and a blast of hope! My sons were in marching band in high school; I chaperoned in every contest. It is *very hard* to get a large number of kids to do this!

I would bet $1000 that this shameless stunt by the Republicans actually cost them more votes because what they did pissed these kids off and they probably got a lot more kids who perhaps were not going to vote to join in!! I fucking love it!!!!!!

Oh, absolutely. They Barbara Streisand'd it. Something people feel has no urgancy gets procrastinated on or slips their mind while something needing organizers and a gd march for mobilizes people.

Because they thought they still had the Hispanic vote tied up when they gerrymandered. It’s like they thought throwing 70,000 people into concentration camps and violating human rights wouldn’t matter.

You'd think eventually Republicans would learn to not mess with Black Voters. Thank you for sharing this. I hope Dems are buying huge cans of shellack.

I know these students will never forget the day they had to march to have their voices heard and votes counted. The anger of someone trying to silence them will be carried throughout their lives. These are our future leaders and freedom fighters. Thank you.

Surely they also removed polling sites from all institutions and not just this particular one, right? [sarcasm font] seriously though - praise the Lord for these WONDERFUL young people, the parents and leaders who raised them because this story gives us HOPE in otherwise sad times.

I'm genuinely curious here - do these Boards of Elections ever provide justification for removing polling places? Is there any kind of accountability? Where I live, elections are run by independent agencies that are hands off by the government (except in Alberta /s ). elections.bc.ca/about/ceo/

elections.bc.caThe Chief Electoral Officer | Elections BCB.C.'s Chief Electoral Officer is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor on the unanimous recommendation of the Legislative Assembly for a fixed term of two elections plus one year.

No, and it’s really frustrating. In my (left-leaning) county we have one early polling place per 994k ppl. In the (right-leaning) county north of me, there is one per 33k ppl.

I'm genuinely sorry for that. I see this happening all over the US and it feels like the gridlock is too firm - my hope is that we're seening the cracks in the two party system start to emerge and maybe that can lead to new directions.

Thanks and I also genuinely wish I lived in Canada. Grew up close to Winnipeg. The US needs a representative democracy/republic system in the worst way.

This is what democracy looks like. Our nation has made great strides. But tyrants still want to thwart our freedom. Sadly, every generation must fight for their rights. Godspeed, young people. You are standing tall.

In Canada, federal workers do outreach to students to ensure they know where and when to vote. Registration and advance polling on junior college and university campuses. Same outreach in hospitals, day centres for the unhoused, to people living with mental illness or physical disabilities.

They closed the on-campus polling site and the students marched back to the HBCU anyway. Nothing terrifies them like a long line of young Black voters. The whole game is making voting inconvenient, then watching it fail. Keep marching.
