How does the media continue to applaud Iran's restraint while simultaneously implying that they would act differently were they to acquire nuclear weapons?Unless their enemies put them on death ground, which would be unlikely if they were a nuclear power, I cannot see them every deploying them.

Wow so you’re telling me everyone who cheered on the Iraq war is on board with this now too? And so are the people who opposed the Iran nuclear deal and killed it? You’re kidding.

Trump bombing Iran without congressional approval was illegal and against international law, and this is what Carney has to say about it? Absolute pandering bullshit. Just embarrassing stuff.

After years of advocacy, applications for the $200/month Canada Disability Benefit opened today. But the only provincial govt in Canada that will keep its citizens with disabilities from actually benefiting from it is the UCP. They are the only ones clawing it back. It’s cruel & shameful.

This is the simplest way to understand Israel's approach to conflicts it is engaging in. There is effectively no frame for peace on any front, but rather a continued pursuit of degradation of threats—a managed security situation in perpetuity.

basically yeah. my theory is that "knowing things" basically peaked in perceived coolness somewhere around 1970 and has been steadily declining ever since. being a nerd is definitionally about your relationship to trivia but trivia isn't actually the same as expertise

I think a lot of the terror of the modern age can be understood by the fact that the Internet accelerated the development of the worst type of person, the "Anti-Intellectual Nerd."

"We love you Canadians! So come down and take your chances with our new Gestapo!" Every single one of them can get F-ed. It's beyond having offended Canadians, it's no longer SAFE to go travel and they ALL know that. F-ing sociopaths. #ElbowsUp #cdnpoli

I shouldn't, but I still find it wild that MAGA is cheering on the destruction of the very things that made America exemplary and capable of being more than their sordid history and glaring flaws. I will constantly go to bat for quality public education in an attempt to preclude this insanity.

The expectation from certain corners of Alberta that the federal Environment Minister should be pro O&G looks like a collective delusion from my vantage point. The entire country isn't ensorcelled by that particular industry. That's just an embarrassingly large portion of Alberta.

The most annoying thing about Smith's demands for mass legislation repeal is that it completely ignores the other stakeholders in the equation. No legislation is explicitly about screwing a place or people. Maybe we should try to understand why some Canadians want the legislation we find limiting.

The Liberals were in the toilet. MPs bailed on Trudeau left, right & centre. Pierre Poilievre was going to be PM w/ 200+ seats. And Bruce Fanjoy rolled his sleeves up in spite of all of that & fought the darnedest grassroots campaign. Goes to show there's still value in doorstep politics. #cdnpoli

Americans already suck at understanding the rest of the world. This will make it worse.

Gov. DeWine just signed SB1, a law ending “DEI” in Ohio public higher ed. Now that it’s law, U of Toledo just killed the following BA programs: • Africana Studies • Asian Studies • Disability Studies • Middle East Studies • Philosophy • Religious Studies • Women's/Gender Studies And… • Spanish

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

I feel like we need to be extremely careful about mandatory treatment. Besides the dubious prospects of success for something like this, it can be hugely problematic to essentially imprison someone for a health problem. I'm also concerned about proper oversight, especially over new operators.

I don't see how our current housing crisis can be addressed without public housing options. There will always be a threshold where there are strong discentives for private industry to build more. That point is always going to be before we reach a sufficient stock of affordable housing.

CBC/Radio-Canada is a pillar of our Canadian identity.    We’re going to strengthen our public broadcaster with more long-term funding, and a modernized mandate — to deliver more local news and keep Canadians better informed during emergencies.

A peaceful and prosperous future cannot be constructed with those who are selfish and stupid. How can you negotiate with those who cannot understand let alone act in a way that furthers their own interest? The absence of predictability creates chaos.

Smith banging the separatist drum in anticipation of an election result she's not going to like while we're dealing with almost unprecedented aggression from the Americans is some bullshit. I've rarely been more embarrassed and enraged as an Albertan.

It's absolutely insane how quickly America has dismantled the very systems that allowed them to obtain global hegemony in the first place.

One consequence of tolerating pseudoscience is that people die when its legitimatization becomes baked into our culture, health care systems, and institutions.
