making these unlocked entries more conscious about what the game is about, the player participating in this lost history of the vanished earth and getting it to move along

Genuinely the one thing I fucking hate about the modern landscape is normal games getting roadmaps for patches that change a lot of fundamental things about the core gameplay and it being expected to happen for years basically turning single player stuff into quasi live service

I really hate the 'we must defend bad art because the Hypothetical Standard Woman likes it' argument. Choice feminism is about degrading feminism into a series of consumer choices that are correctly gender and marketed, nothing radical or boundary pushing about it (just like cozy art).

I am not worth this much of a big thread taking down an essay you clearly did not read while you try and position me as a sexist coming after "girly things" which jfc the gender essentialism that comes up in these topics.

Sterling Hayden, who plays General Jack Ripper in Dr. Strangelove, was at one point in his life a member of the Communist party. He fought alongside Russian Partisans in WWII.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

i want the people who did this to wake up one morning suddenly able to perceive quality, purely so that their own creation can hurt them

I was curious but ambivalent about the Shogun 2 Complete Edition thing, mostly because after playing it 2 years ago, game still looked phenomenal. So did we need this? Well, itโ€™s out today and uh www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/c...

people complain about all kinds of things in the current era of television writing but i do not miss or want to return to this shit AT ALL, and i say this even as someone who broadly liked SG-1

Jake Casella Brookins@casella.bsky.social

Have been watching Stargate SG-1 (first time for me, missed it when it was on, and am in one of my rare tv-watching seasons for insomnia reasons). Interesting (not great, but interesting) how much, at least so far, it seems to think it needs to "reset" each episode, to avoid significant advancement.

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"

king's kind of a dipshit but he's still a half-step ahead of the cozy horror dorks; implicit in this framing is that the taboo is extremely entertaining. the cozy people believe the same (completely wrong) thing about what horror means, but they think it's vulgar instead of alluring

anyways if Flanagan wanted to adapt a story about a girl with dangerous psychic powers who was basically nice and well-adjusted except for the intrusion of the supernatural into her life, he should have done Firestarter instead

this is also why king, despite having some positive qualities as a writer, is almost constitutionally incapable of writing minorities: he isn't really capable of getting into the head of someone for whom the norms themselves are the threat

when i say "CS is a humanity" dwarf fortress is basically what i'm talking about. it's a perfectly fine game but it's also a rare example of Programmer Art (complimentary)

GamesIndustry.biz@gibiz.bsky.social

The happiest man in gaming hates generative AI. Dwarf Fortress creator Tarn Adams discusses bloated AI code, vampire computers, and surviving on Steam. https://bit.ly/4en1cJF

this is particularly visible in how he talks about adding new systems to the simulation as, itself, the subject of his enthusiasm as a creator, closely followed by "hearing about how other people play the game" the latter is particularly funny since a LOT of people talk about DF exactly like that

you laugh, but Book Cooties are invariably fatal if you haven't been properly vaccinated. i read a CJ Cherryh book once by mistake and had to be rushed to the hospital
